Morning Rundown: Zander Mueth leaves game early, Pirates lose on Saturday
Mueth exits game early, Pirates on verge of sweep
RHP Zander Mueth left his start on Saturday early with an apparent injury. He was facing the third batter of the game when he appeared in pain and reached for his back (kind of like he was grabbing around his armpit).
The 2024 Florida Complex Player of the Year was charged for all three runs when each batter he allowed to reach base scored after Victor Cabreja replaced him in the game.
There has been no update on Mueth as of yet. The Marauders are already getting thin when it comes to their pitching staff. Peyton Stumbo, who pitched primarily out of the bullpen last year, started the home opener on Tuesday.
They’ve used a six-man rotation the last few years, but depending on who starts on Sunday, they could already be down to four available.
Jesus Clode was also placed on the injured list Saturday, with Adolfo Oviedo replacing him on the roster.
A grand slam by Elly De La Cruz proved the difference, as the Cincinnati Reds took game two of their weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both teams were held to four runs apiece, the defense came on the grand slam and a miscue on a routine double play in the seventh inning.
Alexander Canario hit his first home run as a Pirate, and Enmanuel Valdez hit an RBI double, representing the only runs on the night.
The Pirates will have to fight off a potential sweep for the third time this year (out of four series).
Carmen Mlodzinski will get the start for the Pirates, with Hunter Green expected to start for the Reds.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 pm ET.

I always have thought that Yohan Ramirez has never really received a fair shake
