The Pirates signed three international amateurs recently, with two showing up in the transactions over the weekend. The other was finished on Monday. Here's a brief rundown of the three players. Since the Pirates used up their entire 2025 international signing pool on day one of the signing period, these players all signed for $10,000 or less, which doesn't count against the bonus pool.
Angel Rosado is a 19-year-old right-handed pitcher from the Dominican. He is 5'11, 191 pounds, filled out more than your average international signing, already showing a strong/solid frame. He currently sits 88-92 MPH with his fastball, while throwing an abundance of strikes.
The Pirates have been concentrating on signing pitchers with solid velocity already and above-average control for their age. He might not add much velocity going forward, but the data suggests his fastball should play up. He also has a 77-80 MPH curve that he can throw for strikes. He agreed to his deal back in March, but it just recently became official.
Yadier Crespo is a 17-year-old catcher from Venezuela who was signed for his defensive skills. He's 5'11", 175 pounds. He's very athletic behind the plate, showing off solid catching skills at a young age. He's an accurate thrower with average arm strength. The bat will have to catch up to the defense, which isn't odd for young catchers.
Left-handed pitcher Dariel Miguel is the latest signing out of the Dominican. He's 18 years old, with good size (6'3"). He has a 90-92 MPH fastball with good riding motion. He fills up the strike zone as well. He has the arm speed and frame to add velocity in the future. He was signed by veteran scout Victor Santana, who worked many years in the Pirates system before being let go a few years ago. He returned recently to the Pirates. Miguel's trainer (Papiro Genao) is the same one who trained Starling Marte.
