Spring Training Gameday 19: Pirates head to Dunedin to face Blue Jays on Roansy Day
Roansy Contreras takes the mound for the Pirates against the Blue Jays
The Pittsburgh Pirates head to Dunedin to play the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. They are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves, where they hit another three home runs on the day.
They lead all of baseball this spring with 34 home runs hit.
On the mound for the Pirates will be Roansy Contreras, who is looking to lock down a rotation spot. He’s shown some moments, but it’s mostly been struggles for Contreras, who has allowed five earned runs on nine hits and four walks in 6.2 innings pitched while striking out just a single batter.
The velocity has ticked up from last year, but it still isn’t missing enough bats to be effective, and the control is shaky.
Chris Bassitt will get the start for the Blue Jays. First pitch is expected around 1:07 pm ET.

Yesterday’s Feature
I took another stab at what the Opening Day lineup and bench could look like after a couple of weeks of spring training games.
Henry Davis just keeps hitting.
Seeing Ro get demolished and Cruz with another errant throw just makes me sad. Areas we had hoped they would make progress developmentally, and they're still where they were.
