How did Crochet not even get a fourth or fifth place CY vote? That dude is special. What a physical specimen along with that arm. Wow.

First half stats was 6-6 record with an ERA of 3.02 in 107 innings.

Second half he was 0-6 with a 5.12 ERA in 39 innings.

With the injuries Crochet delt with between 2020 and 2023 (74 inning total in the majors), that was almost criminal the way the White Sox pitched Crochet pre all star break. His arm looked like it was going to fall off second half. I'm glad he looks healthy now and you are right he is special.

Let’s this be the real Bart. 3-4 WAR season? Seems realistic!

Is anyone skimming statcast batted ball data from spring?

I probably shouldn't care one way or another after only 30 PA or so, but very curious where KeBryan is penciling out.

I'm guessing this lineup is 88.9% of the opening day lineup. Just missing Cruz in CF.

I see Dominic Smith is opting out of his MILB deal today. I wonder if the Pirates would consider him an update over anyone currently in camp for the 1B job? He is a serviceable veteran who can fill a spot if Horowitz is rehabbing the first month.

Tossing Suwinski to face a tough lefty….. rather see Cook in CF since that what he will ultimately role, a weak side platoon bench piece. It might be a sign that he won’t even be that to start the season, I’m ok with that.

Cook's chances were slim and none after the signing of Pham and Jack having an excellent ST. Also the signing of Adam Frazier hurt a lot of the young players. Unless he becomes injured in the next few days, he has to be on the 26. Probably see him at 1B?

Pirates probably aren’t too concerned with righty/lefty matchups in spring. Probably embrace throwing a lefty out against a lefty more anyways since games don’t count

I would think spring would be a good time to give a young batter at bats hitting from the side he is weakest, unless the kid needs a confidence boost.

I just think that you practice to get ready, Suwinski will probably never face a lefty starter like Crochet in the regular season, so why not give those at bats to someone who must likely will. Just one man’s opinion!

Good call, I wasn't disagreeing plus you make a lot of sense when you are talking about someone as good as Crochet. I kind of got off topic a little where I always wonder how a young guy in a platoon role can improve to be an everyday player.

I didn't see a follow-up after Jones went for a second opinion....anyone know anything? Also, what's Horwitz's rehabbing status -- I think I heard he was hitting one-handed like two weeks ago?

They usually do an injury update once a week, so might not hear anything until then. Could be sooner if something else breaks.

Haven’t heard much else on Horowitz

Throwing, fielding and hitting soft toss is the last I saw - sounds very deliberate process, and it would and should be based on how his wrist feels after each stage.

Oh great! Who did you just jinx with an extra injury mentioning something else breaking??

Cool lineup today in one of the MiL games. Starts off KG, Sanford, Severino, Florentino, YDLS. Thought I’d won the lottery.

There was a guy I knew in college, we all called him Ron the Derelict. He’d been a student there, not sure whether he graduated, but he was mid- to late-20s and just never got around to moving on. Stayed on for years, mostly hanging out with the potheads. You could be the PC version.
