It was a busy year for Termarr Johnson, who reached Double-A at 20 years old, and then played in the AFL and an international tournament

The 2024 season started off very slowly for Termarr Johnson. He ended the baseball year with a few high notes, including a strong showing for Team USA.
Johnson had a .162 average and four extra-base hits through 35 games for Greensboro on May 18th. It was a return trip to the team he was on at the finish of the 2023 season. His season was all uphill after that point. He batted .268/.372/.447 over the next 75 games for Greensboro before getting a late-season promotion to Double-A Altoona. Johnson had already played his entire pro career without facing a pitcher who was younger than him, but the promotion to Altoona put him in a league where the average player was four years older than him.
Johnson joined Altoona on August 27th. He hit .229/.316/.396 over the final 14 games, putting up an OPS that was 23 points above league average. The Pirates sent their 20-year-old middle infielder to the Arizona Fall League this year. He was their top prospect in the league, though it was decided very early in the process that he would be joining Team USA for the Premier12 tournament in November.
Johnson hit .250/.444/.475 through 54 plate appearances over 11 games for the Scottsdale Scorpions before joining Team USA on November 1st. His .919 OPS was 112 points above average for the fall league.
The Premier12 tournament lasted nine games total, while the players also had a week of exhibition games before the tournament started. Johnson didn't start the first tournament game, though he played off the bench. He was the starting second baseman for the final eight games of the tournament, which ended with Team USA winning a bronze medal. Johnson hit .310/.414/.429 over 35 plate appearances during the tournament.
The next step for Johnson should be Spring Training for the Pirates. He will most certainly be a non-roster invite to Major League camp, where he will likely see more time than the 25 plate appearances he received during the spring of 2024. It was a rough start to the season for Johnson, but he showed the ability to put up solid overall numbers for every team he played for over the last six months, putting him in a good spot going into 2025.

Let it be written. Let it be done.
There are a lot of downers on Temarr, but I think everyone always forgets how young he is.
He's not Bryce Harper, but he doesn't have to be. I can see him taking a lot of steps in the coming two seasons.
