This Week in Bradenton: Marauders drop five of six in Fort Myers
Overall rough week for the Bradenton Marauders on the road.
Note: I’m taking over the ‘This Week in Bradenton’ feature again. After focusing solely on the FCL last week, we are back to looking at both teams this time around.
It was the best of weeks for the Bradenton Marauders’ squad, as they dropped five of six against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels.
Hung-Leng Chang has put together a couple of clunkers in a row, allowing five earned runs on nine hits across five innings pitched around. Carlson Reed and Michael Kennedy also had rough weeks, with the latter allowing five runs in his start.
Reed really struggled with his control, walking five batters in four innings pitched.
While they didn’t have their best stuff, Khristian Curtis (6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) and Antwone Kelly (5 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 2 K) both turned in strong outings their turn through the rotation.
Scott Randall continued his rehab assignment, pitching three innings on Sunday. The bullpen was pretty solid, with five players pitched either multiple games or more than a single inning and didn’t allow an earned run. Garrett McMillan and Landon Tompkins pitched a single inning in relief without allowing a run during the week.
Eddy Rodriguez was one of the few who didn’t have a complete clunker of a week, going 5-18 with two stolen bases. Keiner Delgado (2-21, 8 K), Axiel Plaz (1-14, 7 K), and Esmerlyn Valdez (2-14, 7 K) all struggled during the week.
The Florida Complex League team went 3-3 after picking up a win on Monday.
Tony Blanco Jr. continues to improve, picking up three extra-base hits on six hits, including a grand slam. He hit two home runs and drove in nine while walking twice and only striking out three times.
Behind the plate, Richard Ramirez is having a solid season at just 18 years old. This past week, he went 6-17 with two doubles while walking three times.
Yordany De Los Santos picked up five more hits, drove in three, walked three times, and stole a base. Jhonson Pena also picked up five hits, scored six runs, drove in four more, and stole four bases.
On the mound, David Matoma pitched twice, allowing just a hit and two walks while striking out six. He picked up the save on Monday after pitching the final two innings.
Zander Mueth made it out of his first inning but still struggled with his stuff again. He only struck out one while walking two in his last start. Jose Regalado led the FCL in appearances (three), allowing a run across 2.2 innings pitched while striking out four and walking three.
That earned run was the first he’s allowed this season.
Carlos Castillo continues to be solid this season. He allowed two earned runs over three innings pitched. He allowed three walks, which have been an issue at times, but he has shown some promise despite being one of the younger players on the team.
