Veteran Jake Lamb continues to knock on the door
Lamb continues strong start to season with Indianapolis
Jake Lamb is seven years removed from hitting 29 and 30 home runs in consecutive seasons, with the latter earning him the title of National League All-Star.
Currently, Lamb has gotten off to a smoking start in Triple-A and is looking to earn another shot at the big leagues.
With this goal of joining the big league team that first drafted him in 2009 out of high school in mind, his goals are simple.
“Personally, I want to continue quality at-bats and drive the ball,” Lamb said. “I want to help out some of the young guys and win some baseball games.”
Lamb, who has not been able to replicate his 2016 and 2017 production since, has still played in double-digit Major League games each season since. After signing a Minor League contract with the Pirates in January, he hit .300 with four extra-base hits in the Spring before being one of the last cuts.
While it could have been a blow to a veteran not to make the team in that manner, Lamb has continued his success at the plate through the first month of the Minor League campaign. He has his .388 with a 1.094 OPS through his first 21 games at Triple-A.
Along with his success on the field, Lamb has embraced a leadership role in the clubhouse and has enjoyed a level of comfort since joining the organization.
Lamb has been doing precisely what he set out to do. He’s putting the ball in play with a strikeout rate lower than his career average. He’s hitting the ball hard, with six doubles and three homers already.
The Pirates have been struggling offensively, to put it lightly. Lamb is a prime candidate to try to infuse some life and has the experience to be ready if his name gets called.

Knock away. Nobody’s home.
Bringing Lamb up just makes too much sense.
