Wyatt Sanford a natural defender at shortstop
Sanford is a strong defender, focus will be on finding himself as a hitter
The Pittsburgh Pirates took a prep-heavy approach at the top of the 2024 MLB Draft, with four of their first five selections coming from the high school ranks.
One of them, Wyatt Sanford, is already linked with the Pirates, as his father played for them in 1998 after being drafted by them in 1991 and 1992.
While Chance bounced around the infield as a professional, even seeing some time in the outfield as a minor league, Wyatt has the chance to be a bona fide starting shortstop.
Pirates’ Director of Amateur Scouting Justin Horowitz believes that Sanford has the chance to be a special defender up the middle.
