Pirates ended Delay’s rehab and optioned him to Indy, and moved Marco G to 60-day to make 40-man room. Presumably tomorrow they option Koch and recall Davis.

After watching the Ecu v Wake game, I personally like Yesavage better than Burns. It's a shame Ecu lost today or Yesavage could've had another statement game this weekend. Burns moves to 9 while Yesavage to 7 for me personally, he is now my top pitching prospect. Still think Burns and Smith have higher ceilings but not by much, Yesavages floor is much higher, a 3 or 4 starter.

Probably not good to take one game over the season, is it?

I've watched each of them 3 times, Yesavage doesn't have the velocity pushing 100mph or the crazy good sliders but he controls his 96mph with two other plus secondary pitches and a splitter that I like as good as their sliders. The best individual performances was Hagen Smith against Oregon St and against TexasA&M, he was straight sick those nights.

Darn now I'm leaning Smith lol

Wasn’t Smith’s outing the first of the year though?

Damn, inadvertently hit post before I was finished. I’d be fine with any of those 3, but if one of the “stuff” guys was there with Yesavage, I’d probably go with one of them. Burns actually walked fewer per 9 than Yesavage,

Maybe it was the games I watched but Smith and Burns seemed to get a lot of swing and miss out of the zone (exception Smith v A&M). I question a little bit how they'd do against better hitters. Not that I don't like both, but they may be getting away with K's that would be walks otherwise. All 3 are very good, just think Yesavage has better control of his pitches, less reliever risk.

His first start (Jmu) he didn't get out of the first inning, it was early in the year against Osu though. (Early March?) Second week late Feb.

The A&M was near the end of conference play. (Early May?)

Shhhhh…. We need Yesavage to make it to 1.9 lol

I really thought he was getting pinched on the outside edge to lefties (Burns as well). His splitter was down right disgusting at times. His control and command are very good, not Skenes or Lowder good but I like his secondaries better than Lowder's.

With Arkansas, Wake and Ecu being eliminated their order shouldn't change much other than they might all go in the top 8 lol.

Tucupita Marcano is under investigation for betting on baseball while with the Pirates. Four other players are also under investigation for betting on baseball while in the minors. Their identities aren't known and there's nothing about whether they're members of the Pirate org.

Further he is under investigation for betting ON Pirates' games. Will be interesting to see whether he was betting on the Bucs to win or lose.

If he was betting on the Pirates I bet you it was for them to lose, lol.

Just saw that. I figured some would mention here. I saw that he was betting wile in the IL when he was with the Bucs……

If he keeps moving like that the Steelers might want to try him at DE lol.

Cannot agree with your suggestion to move all of the 1B up if that includes promoting the 33 year old Jake Lamb. If Tellez is no longer with the Pirates I would turn the whole 1B position over to Connor Joe.

Not sure I can remember who is at 1B in Altoona other than "Shack", who is 27, and Jase Bowen when he is not in CF. But, I would bump Charles McAdoo up to AA as a 3B/1B. That kid hit the ground running at A right after the draft last year and has been one of our best hitters for GBO so far this year with a slash of 333/405/539/945 OPS. He's played most of the games at A+ this year at 3B - 30 games, but also has 4 games at 1B without an error. Drafted as a 2B so he should be familiar with the right side of the infield. Last year he played about 30 games in the OF without an error, but has yet to see the grass this year

Shack was released.

Lamb isn't really the point. Joe is certainly an everyday option at first and Triolo can back up. They should replace Tellez (although his 3-hit day probably earned him another 15 years) with the best hitter available, whether that's Lamb, Gorski, Dingo the Poodle, whoever.

Released or promoted. Doesn’t really matter. Just no use having him at first in AAA

My favorite column of the week!

-Harrington does seem to get more love nationally than locally. Pretty consistently ranked next in line after Bubba and Top100-quality in some outlets.

-Ashcraft through his first five starts: 6.64 ERA, .307 avg against, 18% K

Ashcraft in his last five starts: 1.03 ERA, .189 avg against, *34%* K

-I don't know that you draft a guy like Solometo and *completely* overhaul his delivery, but command struggles from whatever the hell that is were about the easiest prediction one could make in this sport.

I have noticed that about Harrington. Have always thought that was weird. Think someone tried to compare Harrington to Priester and it left a sour taste in fans mouths

Expand full comment

Ashcraft may not be far away from being in the Rotation this year. Not sure that he stays there, or if the Pirates prefer Quinn Priester. Harrington is MONEY - looks like a few of the guys who have come through the Mariners system, and are currently the strength of that team.

Certainly the first base position has been a problem but if Rowdy’s mini breakout over the weekend in Canada shows us anything it’s that the hitting problems on this team run far deeper than Rowdy Tellez. He had 3 hits and the only 4 RBI in the game on Sunday while the rest of the team produced a sum total of nothing. Replace Rowdy has become a nearly constant chant for fans, but doing so will not solve much of anything alone. Replace the entire field coaching staff should be the universal chant.

I’ve said all along that they’re still half a roster from being a good team. Rowdy’s the tip of the iceberg.
