I’d be curious to know how park factors might be hurting Termarr. He’s at .270/.348/.396. Is Altoona obscuring a better offensive year than the counting type stats show?
I'm sure it's cost him at least 3 or more homeruns to the right side. He has hit several to the wall in left as well but I'm not so sure on them, more likely just missed the launch angle by a smidgen.
The headline reminded me of Emmanuel Valdez. Recovering from shoulder surgery, he may be able to play winter ball. But again, just don't have roster space for another average to below-average IFer. Maybe compete with Triolo for the coveted UT spot.
I expected to see something about Alika Williams. What an August he's having! And the HR power is really unexpected! It's hard to get excited about his Offense, after many bad years (although I love his D at SS). Anything new he might be doing at AAA?
The large disparities betw Greensboro and Altoona fields begs the question.....is anybody
in the F.O. paying attention? Can the fences go back at Greensboro and come in at Altoona? Ahh but that's too large of an engineering budget to do that.
There will be a little more on it in the preview tomorrow, but there's actually a massive gap in just the SAL itself. Either way it leads itself to being an odd shift going from on the minor league's highest offensive environments, to an offensive suppressing one. Then Indy is neutral. It's to a point we really have no idea truly who a hitter might be till they see extensive time in Indy.
I’m going to joyfully go out on a limb and say we don’t need extensive time in AAA to know KG is a MLB quality hitter.
I’m fairly certain if every SS in Pittsburgh and Indy broke their legs tonight, KG could fill in for the rest of the season and hold his own (positive WAR).
Most guys absolutely need seasoning in MiLB, but there are a few who just have more raw talent, and can thrive when others can’t. KG is one of those guys.
The sooner the Pirates recognize this, the better it will be for us fans.
Yeah, this wasn't really intended for KG, and thought of including his exclusion when I typed it out. But I'm just saying in general, it's an odd organizational ladder of from one extreme to another.
Yonleg Gaetano has an 80 grade name
PS, my favorite article of the week.
And Greensboro: Coors Field of the Sally League.

Pirates hit change-ups well! Yeah that mirrors some coach throwing BP. Let's not use the VR batting cages to simulate specific pitch types though.

I have found myself really looking forward to these “10 Observations” updates. Thanks for doing the work.
Jared Jones started out with a bang but has been k’ing at a 40% clip since. Hoping at least one of these power guys can gain some traction.
