The pitcher formally known as Thor is available, as bad as we need arms to finish out the year I almost think this is a hard pass.

Did he receive an outright release or just DFAed? His contract is 13 million of which probably 3.5 or so remains. Seems like a waste of money... but if he is released and could be signed to a minor league deal... then promoted... seems like a good idea. He might be salvageable and useable next year as well.

Looking forward to a season-end deep dive on Jared Jones.

Not to say there hasn't been *any* development this year, but his AAA performance sure looks a lot like his A and high-A performance.

I'll take baby steps.

Our young SP's at the upper levels all have some work to do this off-season, but, having two 22 year old SP's at AAA (Jones, Priester) and two very young SP's at AA (Skenes 21 and Solometo 20) is about as un-Pirate-like as I have ever seen. Chandler is another 20 year old at A+ who should be moving quickly after his performance this year, as well as Thomas Harrington 22 who is doing well in his first professional season.

The hallmark of this rebuild appears to be differences without distinctions.

*Differences* in player dev? Sure!

*Distinctly* better outcomes? Womp womp.

"Without going too much into it (I will eventually), I don’t think it’s going to help like some people think it will. "

Who are these people and what do they think?

Nice updates. I share Jeff's optimism about Reilly. Really think he could be a steal from this draft. I agree that the combination of his velocity and movement is intriguing. Even if his control improves only modestly, I would think he would still project as a shut-down reliever. He will need to clean up his mechanics a bit though, I think, and the Pirates have no track record in helping pitchers do so. (As in the case of Forrester, however, I am biased because Reilly's potential exploded in my minor league system in OOTPB and he became a premier closer for me when I played through as the Pirates GM).

I totally agree on Nicolas in a reliever role. His stuff plays up and lately his walks are down. Hopefully he becomes a high leverage 7th, 8th or 9th lock down reliever.
