Mondays can be a little tough with no minor league games but 10 Observations and AM's weekly appearance on NS9 make up for it. Enjoyed today's NS9, especially you guys take on Paul Skenes.
Thank you! Special shoutout this week to NS9, who worked with me to record Sunday night since I'm still not 100% back from surgery. Turns out I was awake anyways that early, but still kind of out of it lol
Man, taking Furtado over George Klassen was a mistake. And it’s not like it was a signing bonus thing cause Furtado got paid more and even if Klassen was looking for an over-slot deal, it’s not like the Pirates didn’t have it. They were looking for someone to give that money too(see Danny Carrion).
When they drafted Furtado last year I wasn’t even sure who he was. I had to even go back and watch the highlights from the one SEC tournament start he had against Kentucky. And I’m an avid College Baseball and MLB draft fan and I really had no idea who he was.
**and if you’re a college baseball fan “wheels” is the best YouTube follow and account to catch up on highlights. You can watch a whole weekend of games in 2 hours with his highlights.
I kind of bought in to Furtado after a couple instruct games but I should’ve stuck to my guns with the “who in the world did you just draft”.
I was impressed with Furtado in Instucts though. I watched those instruct games on YouTube a couple times with no baseball this offseason. And he was pitching multi innings and I did see some I liked there(his CH mainly).
He does throws a pretty nasty CH with big separation from his FB. And I thought they would give him a chance to start with 3 pitches and especially given the fact that most of his positive results were as a SP. He had some positive results on the Cape as a SP but overall not a good showing there either.
But no way you can start him with that type of control. It wasn’t good!! Kennedy didn’t help either but Furtado couldn’t find the plate and when he did it was mostly middle/middle.
I liked Ethan O'Donnell at that pick, I think Cincinnati took him with the next pick. He would have been good value for a 6th round pick. Hopefully Furtado can find some control.
Ya, I like what Cinci did in last years draft. Although the Brewers draft was favorite.
I liked Cinci getting Logan Van Treeck and I like Dylan Simmons from Pitt. But I have thing for RP’s so I’m probably a lot higher on him than others cause he is a RP only. But in the 14th round and for 100K you can’t beat it. His stuff is pure filth.
And If Cinci would’ve signed Drew Pestka and/or Gabe Gaeckle it would’ve been a really good haul then. Both are gonna be studs!!
Pirates not throwing 1M-1.1M at Cuvet is gonna be a big mistake. I’m pretty confident he forgo’s for 900K-1.1M. And they had it left to spend.
1M would be top 80 paid in the entire draft and even 900K would’ve been top 86 paid(Carson Roccaforte was paid 897K and was the 87th highest paid player and a comp B pick).
Watching Philly play Bradenton I really like what they did too. I like the Avery Owusu-Asiedu kid. I obviously liked Klassen. I liked Jake Eddington in the draft and liked what I saw from him this weekend too. I thought they stole Cam Brown(TCU) in the 10th and the Prep Catcher Kehden Hettiger, looked really good this weekend too.
I can't believe they didn't throw everything they had left at Cuvet or at least drafted another hard sign to throw the remaining money at. That was a disappointment, usually you can count on them at least using all the pool if not pushing the pre-penalty tax limit.
Glad to see the writeup for Jack Brannigan. Nice stats last year at A, then improved at A+ with a .987 OPS in 173 PA, 12 HR, 37 RBI, 7 SB, and fielded well in 18 games at SS 971 Pct, 12 games at 3B 970 Pct, and 2B, 8 games 1.000 Pct. With Cruz currently at SS and Peguero, another MI with SS capabilities, I wonder why they are not getting some games for Brannigan in CF. We should be looking for a young RH hitting CF, and I think he has the defensive MI chops and footspeed to make a solid CF with a little work on MiLB Monday off days.
Excited to see which of these college arms take a step forward this year! Special shout to hunter barco for a strong showing on friday (?), could be on quick track to promotion
I remember listening to Fort McKenry on a podcast with Jason Mackey last summer and he made a bold prediction that Barco would be pitching in Pittsburgh by late summer of this year. He had never seen him pitch but people in the organization told him I believe that Barco responded well from TJ and was already pretty advanced as he pitched in the SEC.
Owen Kellington and Isaias Uribe have gone on the 60-day IL.
Anthony tells me Kellington is getting TJ, so he’s gone until late 2025.

Any idea why Antwone Kelly is the probable starter for Thursday? It should be Carlson Reed’s day unless they going with a 6 man.
Bradenton has gone with a 6 man rotation the last couple of years

Here’s the link to one of the Furtado starts in Instructs. He starts at 20:45 and the first CH is 21:15 and it’s nasty!!
Where was that thing on Saturday??

I maintain my assertion that Lonnie & Termarr will both him 30+ HRs if they play the full year at Greensboro. (I hope neither does)
