Very similar to a young Frazier, Sanford uses his lower half more (a bit more crouch) while Frazier is a little shorter to the ball. Sanford will probably get shorter as he matures. Good call they are very similar.
KG and Sanford both in the BA hot sheet. Funny comment on Sanford — his FCL stint was “notable for his ability to recognize how few strikes some FCL pitchers throw.”
Question - was Robby Hammock re-hired by the Pirates for the 2025 season as the Manager of AA Altoona, and then he decided to leave? I see we have a new Manager at Altoona this year - a guy who was with the Red Sox from 2011 to 2024 when he was let go.
Why would we not want to give that job to Blake Butler who did well with the A+ team in 2024, and is now doing even better with a team that at A was 23 games under .500? Butler sounds like a guy who must be a solid communicator and gets his players to buy-in. The type of guys we need training our future.
He joined the Padres coaching staff before the season. I don't he was ever rehired going into 2025.
Not really sure how manager promotions go, but Butler, I think, has been fantastic in Greensboro. He has a great mind for the game, and he always has his players in the right mindset (this from me talking to him the last two years).
Wouldn't mind him moving up to Double-A, where a lot of guys seem to stall. Doubt it would play a factor, but he is also a Greensboro local.
Just very impressed with the results Butler is getting, and looking at the A+ team that was very strong in 2024 under him, and now promoted to AA and they are struggling. AA is an extremely important level and BC hired a guy in his mid-50's who was just let go by the Red Sox. No knowledge of the Pirate Players, and has not been around AA in probably 10+ years! Another BC decision backfiring!
To say nothing of overall talent, does anyone else see a swing mechanics doppelganger with Adam Frazier in that Wyatt Sanford clip?

Last few seconds has a side view of Sanford's swing.

Just to update, Shirk is struggling now, too. Eight ER in his last seven innings.
