Pirates sign a 27 YO depth C and everyone here assumes we are trading our BEST power bat for a mediocre starter. Gimme a fargin’ break! Davis is 2 seasons out of college after smoking through the minors. He comes up to the show and gets handed a OF glove. I don’t trade him for anything. We won in April & September outhitting the other guys. Do it again this year wire to wire.
I don't think we _want_ to trade Davis. We're worried Cherington's dumbass will, though, and with good reason given how they've jerked the kid around so far.
A lot of teams are facing some financial uncertainty due to the RSN situation. It's probably a great time if you're willing to take on payroll, which of course is out of the question for Bob.
Clearing room for someone in the outfield. I think mostly though they are just disgusted with Kelenic for his shenanigans and breaking his own leg acting the fool when they were in a pennant race. That is the type of thing that will get you traded in a hurry.
Heyman reporting Shohei has multiple offers north of $500M. Simply unthinkable! Why don't these owners just give Shohei 10-15% equity in their team and keep their cash. In fact, not a bad idea for Nutting, except it would be 25% of the Pirates. Cuban buy 26% and now we're talking.
I find it hard to place faith that the Pirates will do much more then maybe settle for resigning Santana for first and maybe get one eating innings starter and maybe a couple more moves like Sanchez and Munoz. It's quite a lot to hope for but I think we are going to need Cruz, Endy and Hank all have breakout seasons and a repeat by Hayes with a solid season by Reynolds to finally have a decent season offensively. They would be better off spending money for a top notch pitching guru to get guys like Ortiz, Contreras and Priester over the hump. None of the three may be phenoms but they have enough talent to pitch in the majors. I'd rather see them spend the money for at least one front line pitcher and position player but there just isn't any indication that's going to happen.
Davis will go to ST as the RH hitting RF, DH, C, and sometimes 1B. 'Cutch and Joe did a great job holding together the RH hitting portion of the lineup last year until Liover Peguero and Jared Triolo contributed in the second half of 2023. Davis is a keeper for 2024.
Would another 1st Rounder, Nick Gonzales, 2B, be more valuable in a trade than Davis?
The likelihood of Davis being traded seems far greater to me than Endy. BC has a massive obsession with catcher defense and Endy has GG potential. I just can't see him setting the team on a path to have Davis as the regular C. In fact, I've been wondering whether the repeated insistence that Davis is still a catcher isn't for purposes of the trade market. Nobody who follows the team believes Davis will ever catch for them on more than an occasional basis.
Only one 1.1 - Dansby Swanson - has been traded in recent memory and that was by Dave Stewart who turned out to be like the non-criminal George Santos of General Managers.
It’s a shame that the Pirates never tried to capitalize on the fact that GM’s like this used to be employed. We were too busy trying to outsmart the Rays for Chris Archer or the Astros with Gerrit Cole.
Both things can be true. They should’ve gotten more out of Cole, but they should’ve gotten more for him than simply helping alleviate another teams 40 man roster crunch. He still had a lot of value after all. He would’ve had roughly $30 MM in surplus value at that point.
Trading him now would be a mistake because he’s coming off a disappointing rookie year. Plus Pirates need to score more runs to be a contender. Trading away a guy they are dependent on to make the offense better next year would be the equivalent of robbing Peter to pay Paul.
He's had way fewer PAs in MiLB than any top 5 prospect we've called up since before Pedro Alvarez's days. Insanely stupid to trade him at this moment imo.

Wow Braves just traded for Kelenic and ate $30M on Evan White and Marco Gonzales only sending back their like 8th and 26th prospects both RHSP
Evan White, signed by the Mariners to a 6-yr deal before playing a single big league game, yet another failure of the strategy.
Who decided this was a good idea and why does everyone listen to them?
Wonder how the Brewers will feel about Chourio's deal in 4-5 years.

Mariners clearing room for Ohtani!
I do wonder if they might be making a play here... if not ohtani then some other big money move

I love the idea, but I think the CBA prohibits players from having any equity in their teams.
Leland made the Hall…….
Well deserved.
Ah, it was fun to be a major league franchise.

I dunno why but I feel a Henry Davis for controllable, affordable starting pitcher with a Fip of like 4.2 on the horizon.
I’m not even sure I know how I feel about said idea I can’t get out of my head…

I read this comment and all I heard was...there’s precedent. Make it so.
You don't wanna be the Shelby Miller in that deal!

Honestly we did ok with musgrove. There have been way worse trades
Yes, it ended up not being an awful trade. But still, they should’ve gotten more for a pitcher of his caliber.
Of Cole’s caliber? Yeah they should have gotten more OUT of Cole.

It’s not fair to judge him after half a season, but I don’t see much there and right now he still has value b

Depending on the said pitcher, I will be fine with it. DH only bat has to really produce to be super valuable.
Crazy to think the BUCS may have drafted a DH only type Numero uno. I hope that's not the case. At least they got Bubba. And the fella from Vermont.
Brayan barello Red Sox comes to mind . And Red Sox don’t have a great catcher so should look to upgrade somehow.
