Landon Tomkins has also been really good as Bradenton’s closer(well, he’s on the 7 day right now). And the stuff looks “backend”. 94-97 FB with a hard, mid 80s SL.
And even though he’s an older “prospect” and was a Senior/under-slot draft pick, I still think there is more in tank and sitting more 95-98 is likely. He’s a big dude.
Two questions. Will Gorski ever get a chance in Pittsburgh? Is McAdoo a future infielder or outfielder? I’ve asked the second question before and apparently outfield is likely his best position, but he’s playing at 3rd almost exclusively
Hard to say on Gorski, but if he does I hope they bring him up during a hot stretch.
I think 2nd is McAdoo's most comfortable position. I feel the pirates will move him around until a clear path on the big league club opens in the future. Although he's an average fielder, he can be close to average anywhere other than CF, SS and C. I think he could be a good super utility at the infield and outfield corners. Hopefully he keeps hitting and claims a regular role in one of them.
Now, now. Rowdy's coming along and hitting .352 in June. If he keeps this up, which is probably about as likely as Ben Cherington developing a pleasant personality, will the Pirates just ride out the year with him, extend him or trade him before July 31st? My bet's on the latter regardless of whether they're still within reach of the post-season or not because that's what BC does.
Got interrupted before but I wanted to add that we shouldn’t get distracted by a few weeks. Tellez still isn’t hitting for much power. What’s happened is that everything he puts the bat on is falling in. His BABIP for June is .439, compared to .258 for his career. When he reverts to his norm, the Pirates will be left with a guy who’s something like Tellez’ season numbers, IOW, a major liability.
The decision to ride with him was made when they signed him. There was never a chance of him going anywhere before the deadline, whether he hit .352 or .012.
That was made pretty clear a long time ago, but what about at the deadline? Will Cherington trade him, assuming he's still doing well and anyone wants him of course, if the Pirates are still seen as contenders for a play-off spot at the end of July?
I'm holding out hope for 1 of Montgomery, Wetherholt and Kurtz. Doubt Wetherholt gets to 9 and a few mocks have Kurtz potentially being an underslot candidate so maybe a chance he doesn't make it to us. Need a team or 2 to go off script and have 1 of them fall to us
Those are the 3 I think we have a realistic shot at, just need 2 college arms and a prep player go in the top 8.
I still hope we take 1 of the top 9 college players (6 hitters or 3 pitchers) but won't be upset if we take 1 of the 2 prep position players or a next tier college bat. Really hope one of Kurtz, Montgomery or Wetherholt falls to 9 though.
My boy Lonnie's gonna figure this thing out and go berserk in the second half. It's encouraging seeing the abundance of arms taking steps forward, it's time for a few bats to get going and shine a better light on the system
I was sure this was going to the year he broke out. What a disaster this season has been for him, and even worse for Polanco. It’s unbelievable how few legit outfield prospects this organization has.

Perachi could get in there as longman

I couldn’t help but notice we don’t have a first baseman of the future…
Or present.

I think he could be a plus defender there. I'm still holding out hope for Kurtz or Burke in the draft, hopefully both lol.

If they like one of the prep guys, I hope they go prep. The Pirates have done particularly poorly with high draft pick college bats. For years.
Kurtz baby, the dream summer includes adding Kurtz and Roberts. I know, I’ll be disappointed, hoping to at least we get one.

I thought the same. Started out hot then fell off. Really hoping the switch flips and he figures this out
