The International signing period begins on Wednesday, January 15, and goes through December 15.
There have already been a few notable names that the Pirates have been linked too, and have since signed.
We will also have a completely separate article with all the names the Pirate signed when it is announced.
This tracker will keep track of any signings that are released before the team makes their official announcement. We will update it as we see things throughout the day.
Johan De Los Santos, SS Dominican Republic
There seems to be some conflicting reports on the bonus amount for De Los Santos. Pipeline has him at $2.25 million while Baseball America and a few other reporters have him at $2.4 million.
De Los Santos was ranked 23rd on MLB Pipeline for this class and is the younger brother of current Pirates’ prospect Yordany De Los Santos.
Darell Morel, SS Dominican Republic
We’ve heard this name quite a bit the last couple of days, as he was originally set to sign with the Dodgers before striking a deal with the Pirates. The bonus is for a tad under $1.8 million.
Morel is a taller left-handed hitting shortstop that BA mentions having 70 grade raw power.
We have this video of Morel hitting and fielding, thanks to John Dreker.
Gabriel Rodriguez, OF Venezuela
Rodriguez is a 6’2” outfielder from Venezuela, who has been gaining momentum according to Baseball America. He has plus-speed and has been showing more power as of late.
Yoslaniel Hernandez, LHP Cuba
We heard about this one a couple of weeks ago, but Hernandez is a left-handed pitcher who has gotten up to 93 mph already with his fastball.
Armstrong Muhoozi, OF Uganda
The Pirates reached over to Uganda again, where they got current pitching prospect David Matoma. BA mentions he’s on the rawer side, but have nice tools, including speed, arm strength and power potential.
Update: Here’s a link to a Tweet showing a radar gun reading a ball at 100 mph reportedly from Muhoozi. BA did note his arm strength as one of his best features.
