AFL Update: Other Pirates hitters stepping up to provide offense
Pirates hitters chipping in offensively
Another week down in the Arizona Fall League, with the Scottsdale Scorpions continuing to struggle with a 5-11 record. They are currently fifth of six teams in the Fall League, with a .313 win percentage.
They are one of two teams with a negative run differential, with a -39 mark.
Two of the bigger names the Pirates sent over, Termarr Johnson and Sammy Siani, had slower weeks.
Johnson went 2-9, with a double, and two runs scored while driving in a run and striking out four times. Siani finished the week strong with a three-hit day, but also went 2-10 before that, and finished 5-14 overall.
He also punched out four times while hitting a double.
The other two hitters, while still on a more limited basis, provided a little pop in the lineup. Geovanny Planchart and Kervin Pichardo combined to go 7-18 last week, with three of those hits going for extra bases.
Each hit a home run. For Planchart, all four of his hits came on October 23 when he went 4-5 with a home run and three RBI.
Five of the seven hits that Pichardo has picked up have gone for extra bases.
On the other side, each of the five pitchers the Pirates have in Arizona threw once each.
Walks continue to be an issue for Brandan Bidois, with two in an inning while also allowing an earned run. Khristian Curtis allowed five runs (four earned) on two hits and three walks in one-third of an inning on October 22.
Valentin Linarez allowed his first hit of the fall, pitching two innings of shutout baseball, walking one and striking out two. Eddy Yean pitched 1.1 innings while allowing one run on four hits and a walk.
After starting the previous Sunday, Derek Diamond pitched one inning in relief on Saturday, striking out two. He has a 3.68 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched this fall.
