Overview
Overbay is the son of former Pirate Lyle Overbay. He pitched mainly in relief for two years at Nevada Las Vegas and one at Arizona State, and struggled due to control problems. He walked 5.8 per nine innings in each of his last two seasons, leading to ERAs of 5.14 and 5.79. He throws his fastball 95-97 mph and his swing-and-miss pitch is a slider. He also throws a cutter and change that have some promise. His stuff was good enough that he had a 10.7 K/9 at Arizona State and 13.5 in his second year at UNLV. Baseball America ranked him 419th among draft prospects and MLB Pipeline didn’t rank him. Overbay signed for a little under the slot amount of $251,500.
