Overview
Originally drafted by Seattle, Moore has shown good stuff but has had a great deal of trouble throwing strikes. His fastball sits in the mid-90s, and he throws a slider and curve, the latter being his best pitch. He doesn’t throw a change and has strictly been a reliever so far. His K rates have consistently been very high and he’s not easy to hit, but he’s struggled just to keep the walks below one per inning. The Pirates acquired him from San Diego at the 2026 deadline for Hunter Stratton, whom they had designated for assignment.
2021-23
Moore spent his first three years moving around between rookie ball and the two class A levels. He split the time between the Padres’ and Reds’ organizations, as San Diego sent him to Cincinnati at the 2022 deadline in a trade for Luis Castillo. Moore also missed the bulk of the 2023 season with an injury.
Moore struggled in low A after being drafted in 2021, posting a 6.87 ERA with more walks than strikeouts. He was much more effective at the level before the trade in 2022, with a 1.95 ERA in the high-offense California League. He got his BB/9 down to 4.1 while striking out 16.1 per nine innings. He got into only 14 games in 2023, mostly in high A, where he had a 5.52 ERA and walked 6.1 per nine innings.
2024-26
The Reds sent Moore to AA for most of 2024 and he had an ERA of 4.47 there in 27 games. He fanned 13.4 per nine innings but walked 7.2. Cincinnati traded Moore to San Diego early in the 2025 season and he spent most of the year in AA. He had a 4.95 ERA and 1.65 WHIP, as his BB/9 increased to 8.2.
The Padres sent Moore back to AA in 2025 and he had a 1.85 ERA as a result of allowing only nine hits in 24.1 IP. He walked 24, though, while striking out 45. He moved up to AAA in late June and, through the trade deadline, had a 6.14 ERA, the result of 19 walks in 14.2 IP. He fanned 17. The Pirates acquired him for Hunter Stratton at the deadline.
