Ercolani has a long ways to go, but it’s remarkable where he’s at, considering his age and the fact that he comes from a country whose entire population would easily fit into PNC Park. He made tremendous progress just over where he was to start this year.
He looks very raw to me. His motion is non-repetitive, almost chaotic, and his release point for his pitches is all over the map. However, judging by the video, he has a very live arm. I'll bet his spin rates are top shelf. It will be interesting to see if the Pirates can sort out his mechanics. He was a good choice to send to the AFL.
Probably why his velo varies a lot, too. Yet he’s still mostly gotten good results. I’m really hopeful they’ve got something very interesting to work with.
It's hard to tell with just a short video, but his velocity seems to taper off when he goes to the stretch and the slightly more abbreviated leg kick. His release point seems a little more consistent from the stretch as well, so he probably needs reps pitching from the windup. I would be reluctant to have him give up the windup and pitch always from the stretch, because his stuff looks much more electric from the windup, though less consistent. He needs reps probably more than coaching.
Brannigan playing shortstop batting 7th
Bowen in RF batting 9th
Branigan is same age as Peguero.
