i'm echoing what nmr said but bubba sort of seems like jones on light speed development to me . I hate to say it , but a mere 14 months ago was wondering i he would bust and he's now looking like one of best starting prospects in milb.

in a weird way this has been one of chandler's more impressive outings to me. wasn't he near 25 pitches before he even recorded an out in the first inning?

Got the first batter out then a hit and walk followed by a homer. Totally agree though, battled back and settled in after. Got to go back and look what else he gave up after the homer in the first though.

No problem, he gave a hit k hit k after in the first, only one other batter got a hit in his remaining 4 innings. I think he threw mid thirties in the first inning (pitch count). Like you said impressive.

Chandler with a rough first inning but very good 2nd, 3rd and 4th. 69 pitches nearly half in the first inning.

Nick G with a homer Peguero with 2.

I don't know how Yorke's double didn't go out, it was crushed.

On a more esoteric level, these two way guys almost always seem to end up on the mound. Not just for Pittsburgh.

Does that say something about “ease” of development? Or are these types purebred pitchers who are also athletic enough pipedream into existence as a bat?

Wild to see how much refinement this kid has achieved in like a year and a half.

Jared Jones is the obvious recent comp, but his dev was more slow burn than BANG.

Bubba, to my eye, is at least a year ahead.

i feel exact same way NMR

Good article AM. Appreciate your hard work.

Bubba is going to be in the OD rotation next season and will be a ROY candidate.

Let it be written, let it be done!

Yesterday Shelton once again went with Bednar to pitch the ninth inning of a tied game. That loyalty reminded me of Captain Ahab chasing his white whale, Moby Dick. No matter what the circumstance he chased that white whale until he found him and the whale killed him. Shelton seems to be following the same path as Ahab. He will continue to call in Bednar until it results in his firing.

I’m a bigger fan of throwback jerseys, although the Bucs didn’t get too diverse until the 70’s. But there’s still plenty of options from that era and that’s even before you get into the Grays and Crawfords stuff. It’s far better than the City Connect, camouflage, and McDonalds drive thru uniforms they had with the red. Ghastly.

I’m not sure if anyone remembers, but the Baseball HOF still has an online exhibit, Dressed to the Nines. It’s a cool database where you can look up uniforms across baseball history. Worth checking out if you haven’t seen it.
