Not that anybody who's been playing the slightest attention could have expected anything from the Pirates on this front, but there's a story out now that Toronto has "taken the lead" on Yariel Rodriguez.
Unceremoniously shitcanned for his failure to draft and develop, Neal Huntington produced Mercer, Grossman, and Wilson out of the mid-rounds of his first draft.
Three drafts in for Benny and the only prospect of note after the 2nd round is Sean Sullivan. A remarkable run of futility to start the Cherington Era.
They drafted a lot of control issue pitchers in 2023. If they can figure out how to get some of these guys to throw strikes consistently, we might have something. Easier said than done though.
Massey will be a fun arm to follow this year, not sure if he was a hot few months kinda guy or is actually intriguing. Alternatively, maybe his early professional career gives enough intrigue to have him be a secondary piece in some sort of swap
Definitely a kid who throws a lot of pitches, but those half swings at A tend to disappear as the hitters at the advanced levels have the better recognition factor and bat speed to wait a fraction of a second longer before pulling the trigger. Only way to keep them honest is with more well placed heaters.

They're going to play for the Boston Bruins?

Monoah is the best chance we[ve had to acquire an ace since AJ Burnett
Our best shot is that we can offer him a chance to start, maybe even an early opt out so he can go maker bigger money if he pitches well
We know they aren’t outbidding anyone/paying above market value for a player.

Anyways really nice writeup, Murph.
Guys like JP and Sightler give me some level of hope that this management team can actually identify guys in later rounds that we can develop.
