Mlod fail as a starter, so when the whole stretch to a starter began I was skeptical. I think multiple innings reliever is the best possible outcome, especially early on along with Ferguson.
I thought it to be stupid to issue the proclamation earlier in ST that Endy was to concentrate on Catching only. He played a lot of 1B and other positions with the Mets, and then with the Pirates after the 2021 trade that brought him to Pittsburgh. Right now he can save a spot on the 26 for another young player if he covers 1B against RHP's and somebody like Cook plays some CF/1B against LHP's.
They had a lot of opportunities to use their younger guys—Endy, Yorke, Cook—in versatile roles to maximize their chances of adding a little upside to the roster. Instead, they chose to clog the roster with upside-free guys, Pham and Frazier.
After watching the Pirates basically throw Henry Davis in right field 2 years ago and Oneil Cruz in center, I'm not sure practicing a position is all that important to our decision-makers.
Warning - making a mountain out of mole hill. When you said Grifin had his rookie moment.. honestly he has played years and years of travel ball, coaching etc. Big picture I think some players are fully in tune with the little things and some may never be (reference about a million posts about Oneil last year). So.. the mountain I am creating- one mistake should mean nothing however getting tagged out like that is baseball small details 101 and really shouldn't be a 'rookie' mistake. For now I'll just say bonehead play #1 and could be his last or foreshadowing on an obviously great athlete who may just be a bonehead at times. I can live with that. Also - good stuff as always - thank you!

Endy at 1B in a MiL game. When the big leaguers are out here, they usually just hit. Hmmm.

Bae might be more happy about that than DJ Stewart...... or maybe I am just reading too much into it.
Not sure you are. Apparently there’s a longer explanation from the mgr coming at DKPS.
Endy already knows how to play first.

They only care when it makes sense to move a guy.
