That was some mighty fine bullpen work by the Pirates. Who was that Ortiz guy that brought in in the 10th throwing smoke and bending sliders all over the place?

This might be the Pirates' best chance to win the division. Every year there's one team that performs ridiculously well on one-run games for completely stochastic-bordering-on-random reasons. Why not the Pirates?

I feel like that might have been last year, but I’m with you, it’s a very winnable division.

I don't think the true competitive window opens until 2025/26 just because having Skenes and then eventually Termarr from the start of a season will make a yuge difference.

Having the best team possible isn't the same as having the best shot at winning the division since nothing happens in a vacuum. If nothing else, this feels like the best year for a fluke-y division win.

My concern down the road as the Pirates get better is that the Cubs are going to get better, too. On paper, the Reds are getting better, but I'll believe it when i see it with that team.

Anyone else’s SportsNet app not let them watch the game today? I was able to watch spring training but it wouldn’t allow me to watch todays game

No issues here. Every once in a while I have to log out and log back in to get to the game link on the app. I dunno

I could watch the penguins tonight, pregame and postgame but got a screen during the game saying this event is not available in your area. Really bizarre. Had to watch a stream online.

Extra innings are tense and especially on the road with the "new" rule...what a clutch performance by the bullpen!

"Yeah we got down early in the game, and I don't think anybody ever thought that we were going to lose."

Great mindset to open the season 🫡

I wasn’t able to follow most of the game. Where was Bednar?

Shelton: unavailable today, available rest of series.

Worked out well. They won a bullpen game without using him.

I think he ate one of those new Renegade footlongs. We might see him Saturday if he can pass it, those things can blowout an iron gut.

Great question.

Broadcasters gaffe as well. They had no cameras showing pen, and Brownie and Wagner had no idea if Bednar had gotten warm, or not in 9th-12th.

84 more to go. I'd say my win prediction is on solid ground.

Yes!

The good - 3 long balls

The bad - 17 Ks

Gonna be a wild ride.

Expand full comment

Also good 8 bb’s

There are going to be games when we look like the lumber company and other games when the K's are going to make us want to throw something at the TV. So yes, a wild ride.

Young hitters. They take time. Let's just be glad that Cruz looks fully recovered.

Bullpen allows only 1 hit. I'll take that 'good' as well

And one hit by pitch and 2 intentional walks but 0 walks. They be tryin to keep the whip low.

That's a very memorable Opener! Not clean, but epic.

No doubt about it.

Good win, but damn!

The 'run anytime Josh Bell has the ball" approach is 0-3. I think he has more assists than the other infielders.

Expand full comment

I guarantee no sportsbook had a Josh Bell +2.5 assists prop to bet.
