Gameday 100: Pirates look to avoid a sweep against the White Sox
Andrew Heaney vs Aaron Civale
Despite jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ bullpen had a meltdown and now have to fight off a potential series sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox.
Oneil Cruz ripped a triple to lead off the second inning, but no one was able to bring him home.
That was a recurring theme on the night, as the Pirates went 3-15 with runners in scoring position.
Mike Burrows pitched well, completing five innings while allowing two runs and striking out six. Caleb Ferguson and Isaac Mattson combined to allow six earned runs in the sixth inning, surrendering the lead.
It will be up to Andrew Heaney to try to put the Pirates in a position to avoid getting swept. Aaron Civale will pitch for the White Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 pm ET.

Pirates could drop below the .500 mark as a franchise for the first time since August 22, 1903 today. Mentioned last night on the Twitters, but it's a bit crazy that the last team to drop under .500 is the one who got the Pirates to the .500 mark. Losing twice to the Chicago White Sox is embarrassing enough, but when the losses have such a negative footnote to go along with them, that makes it even worse.
Konnor Griffin back in the lineup today. Singled in the first. Went from 1st to 3rd on a Jesus Castillo single, then scores on a Javi Rivas SAC Fly.
