Gameday 104: Pirates open three game series at home against Diamonbacks
Mike Burrows vs Ryne Nelson
The Pittsburgh Pirates will start a three-game weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, with Mike Burrows set to take the ball for the home team.
Coming off a sweep of the Detroit Tigers, the Pirates will look to keep things rolling against Arizona, whom they took two of three against earlier in the season on the road.
Spencer Horwitz had a big series for the Pirates, picking up seven hits, one a grand slam. Burrows was solid in his last outing, but got a no-decision after the bullpen allowed eight runs in the final four innings.
Arizona will have Ryne Nelson on the mound, who picked up the win in his last start after pitching six one-run innings.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.

Yesterday’s Feature
Consistency remains key for Khristian Curtis
Khristian Curtis accomplished a feat that few will be a part of. He pitched six innings of a combined perfect game, along with Jake Shirk and Mike Walsh.
Today’s Feature
Pitching notes: Bubba Chandler bounce-back not surprising, Khristian Curtis pitching deeper, Johan Oviedo
To say it’s been an eventful season for Bubba Chandler may be a bit of an overstatement. He’s emerged as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, and remains knocking on the door of the majors, awaiting his opportunity.

No jinx here when I say that Burrows needs one inning to lose his prospect status. Obviously some sites use service time and he graduated already, but I prefer the players were given a chance first, so he starts today with 49.1 innings.
Woohoo! Moody and Gwost signed.
