Gameday 106: Pirates Start Series Against Tigers On Trade Deadline Day
The Pittsburgh Pirates open a quick two game series against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday looking for their third straight win.
After putting the final touches on a series victory in dramatic fashion, the Pirates open up a two game set against the Detroit Tigers before heading to Milwaukee to face the Brewers.
The biggest thing to monitor is the Trade Deadline, which is set for 6 pm ET. The Pirates have players that are generating interest around the league, both conventional, and maybe some that are a little more of a shock.
Ben Cherington has already made one deal, moving Carlos Santana for infield prospect Jhonny Severino.
Two of the more likely players to get moved are Rich Hill and Austin Hedges, both here on one year contracts.
Check back here for updates throughout the day on any potential trades/moves made by the Pirates.

Updates/News
— Ji-Man Choi and Rich Hill have both been traded to the San Diego Padres in exchange for three minor league players. The main return on the trade appears to be 6’7 left-handed pitcher Jackson Wolf.
Fangraphs explains he’s a sidearmer with a plus slider and could be a weapon out the bullpen, where they believe he ends up. Currently pitching in Double-A, Wolf made his major league debut this season, pitching five innings, allowing three earned runs on July 22, picking up the win.
Estuar Suero and Alfonso Rivas are the other two players heading to the Pirates in the trade. Suero and Wolf seem to be the big names in the deal, with them coming in as the 10th and 11th ranked prospects for the Padres, respectively.
When it comes to Suero, he becomes the second young former International signing they have acquired - Jhonny Severino being the first. I’m going to be going a little more in depth on that topic in the coming days.
— Perhaps their only other trade of the day, the Pirates send Austin Hedges to the Texas Rangers in exchange for international pool money.
— One more trade, as the Pirates send Rodolfo Castro to the Philadelphia Phillies for LHP Bailey Falter. This season in the majors, Falter has posted a 5.13 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 40.1 IP. He’s recently been pitching in Triple-A, where he’s put up a 3.96 ERA in 50 IP, striking out 37. He is 26-years-old.
Carlson Reed debut, and well, didn't go well per box score
