Off topic, the first player from this year's draft has made it to double A. So far the guy is tearing it up 6 for 12 with 3 walks 3 k's and a double and a triple. He was 5 for 6 in his A ball games with a walk and a sac fly. Just heard there's an outside chance he might make it to the majors this year.
I'm so happy no one in the NL central drafted him. Of course it's Nolan Schanuel.
He has the bat, but not somebody the Pirates were looking at for the 1-1. Good situation for him.
Somebody closer to home is Mitch Jebb who is hitting well at A Ball - college draftee, just turned 21 in May, and could be a good possibility to move up to A+ rather than keeping him at A. Cheng is a keeper at A+, but Escotto has struggled with the bat.
I'm extremely happy with Skenes, I've been saying since early March that I thought Schanuel was possibly the better hitter in comparison to Crews. (Not the better overall player though)
I would like the pirates be more aggressive with Jebb, maybe get a cameo with Altoona late in the season. I just can't see Jebb developing power without sacrificing contact.
I wouldn't mind looking at the box score and seeing a dude hitting above 300 for once. Even if he hits very few HR's. I guess I am just waiting for the next 2006 Freddy Sanchez.
I like Jebb the player, it's just that there are several of his profile types in the organization already. (Bae, Marcano, Cheng, T. Gonzales...) I think his floor is very high but his ceiling is low in comparison.
Fun fact, priester, oviedo, and bido are the only 3 bucs on our current staff with an ERA over 4. Means nothing, but I wouldve expected many more than that
I am very content with delay serving as all time backup C and pulling a big league paycheck for a few months. Hank, endy, and delay is fine for next year too imo
The four players moved had 1/3rd of a season left and a combined $26M in salary, so about $8.5M saved. You have to add in replacement salaries, so basically it's right in the middle of your guess. I'm rounding off, but $7.5M is about right for savings. Could bring Rich Hill back next year for that amount...then trade him again
Just saw where Josh Bell has been moved again. The Mistake By The Lake to the Fish for Segura and Khalil Watson. Still remember his name bantered around in 21 when we got Hank.
A candidate to go No. 1 overall in the 2021 Draft on a below-slot deal to the Pirates, Watson instead slipped all the way to the Marlins at No. 16 amid signability and makeup concerns. He signed for $4,540,790, a franchise record for a prep position player, then had a disastrous first full pro season. He batted .232/.296/.395 with a 35 percent strikeout rate in Single-A and was demoted for a month after making a threatening gesture toward an umpire in July.
Someone said the other day that they don't make anymore changes during the season for the farm system ranks. It would seem like it would be an easy update, but once everyone starts graduating, they will drop down. Whether they do it right away or in the off-season. I don't know if Williams will graduate, but all of the rest that you named should. Mlodzinski is safe for some time because they don't go by service days. Hernandez will be off after he pitches once more (assuming they update it)
Rundown of MiL moves:
IF Brenden Dixon promoted to Indy.
IF Ji-Hwan Bae on rehab to Indy.
C Luis Hernandez activated at Indy.
RHP Juan Minaya placed on 7-day IL by Indy.
1B Alfonso Rivas supposedly optioned to Indy, although MLB.com doesn't have that anywhere.
LHP Jackson Wolf assigned to Altoona.
1B/OF Will Matthiessen promoted to Altoona.
1B/3B Malcom Nunez moved up to Greensboro on rehab.
2B Termarr Johnson promoted to Greensboro.
C/1B Nick Cimillo promoted to Greensboro.
3B Garret Forrester activated at Bradenton.
RHP Landon Tompkins activated at Bradenton.
2B Charles McAdoo was activated at Bradenton earlier, but debuted today.
OF Estuar Suero assigned to FCL Pirates.
RHP Carlson Reed assigned to FCL Pirates earlier but debuted today.

Lol I knew you would be all over this. Hes getting the classic angels treatment and running with it

I hope he surpasses them. But I trust your scouting eye.
Interesting game at Low A

Lonnie White Jr had an excellent game but only swung at 3 of 16 pitches
He got robbed of extra bases on a leaping catch at the wall by the CF. Missed a HR by about a foot and still had a double and triple.
McAdoo and Forrester were even more selective
Forrester swung 2x in 29 pitches
McAdoo swung 3x in 18 pitches
Jebb also impressed with 5 BIP out of 6 swings total (among 23 pitches)
Jebb has no power. Hit two balls squarely and just got fly outs to CF.
I suppose it will be a big surprise when he starts to hit them more squarely
And he had a bunt single so that will mess up Anthony’s calculations:)
Fun fact, priester, oviedo, and bido are the only 3 bucs on our current staff with an ERA over 4. Means nothing, but I wouldve expected many more than that
That’s encouraging
Another solid outing for oviedo, he seems like a very viable rotation piece for next year
Keller, Oviedo and I hope we trade for a top shelf guy
then a long list of starters
Bido, Contreras, Ortiz, Wolf, Baily, Priester, VVasquez, Skenes, Solometo, Jones, Harrngton, Nicolas
I am very content with delay serving as all time backup C and pulling a big league paycheck for a few months. Hank, endy, and delay is fine for next year too imo
waste of a roster spot on Delay unless they think he is the best pinch hit option from triple A
would rather audition Malcom Nunez or Mason Martin
I think we need to carry a third C if davis and endy are going to be playing other positions as well
Sheesh harrington with 11 K 7IP 1ER
ooooohh: Jackson Wolf is a starter
like it even more now
two left handed starters and two strong international lottery tickets
sources say it was a good trade deadline
Hes a big boi too
how is it that Leyland isnt in the Hall of Fame?
BOOM!!! Goes Endy And Peguero!!!
Obviously, Peguero needs to go back to AAA.
who is Vinny Capra?
Crime boss of the Wilmerding outfit?
Also, why is Vinny Capra?
More important, how is vinny capra?
So off the $30 million dollars added this off season, the team was able to shed about $7-8 million.

Hopefully is spent a tad better!
Dick Mountain is my age. Gives me motivation to keep knuckle pucking.
Funnel that right into next year's FA class with the baseline 30mill spent this year
Just saw where Josh Bell has been moved again. The Mistake By The Lake to the Fish for Segura and Khalil Watson. Still remember his name bantered around in 21 when we got Hank.
He sure has struggled this year at the plate. The old "make up concerns". And they ain't talking about a girl that paints her face on.

Sounds like a true humanitarian!
Wow. Going to have to look at Watson's numbers. I remember his name popping up as well. We should have slung Eddie Yean for him.
Great deal for the guardians to get out of his contract
Mostly by swapping his slightly larger bad contract with Jean Segura's, who has somehow been worse.
I think segura was already released lol
And still …
https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/farm-system-rankings
Was this updated after the deadline? Henry Davis and Jose Hernandez are both one game away from graduating, then others won't be far behind
Yeah it was updated several times today
Among the hitters Henry Davis ($46m), Jared Triolo ($6m), and Nick Gonzales ($2m) will graduate within days
Using the FanGraphs calculator
$313m - $54m = $259m
I don’t expect Fangraphs to make these changes until next spring but the Pirates would still have the “top” farm system with those graduates
Currently, the next best systems are …
Cubs $252m
Boston $242m
Washington $241m
Cleveland $238m
Mlod ($1m) and Jose Hernandez ($1m) also have graduated (or soon will)
Bido ($0m) also will graduate but he wasn’t even listed as a prospect
Even with that the Pirates would still comfortably have the #1 system
Endy ($55m), Priester ($21m), Liover ($8m), and Alika ($2m) will graduate within 4-5 weeks
It’s only at that point that the system will fall to the middle of the pack

Interesting day at LECOM. Jebb, Forrester and McAdoo all in the lineup. Chang starting.
