Gameday 112: Pirates look to avoid a sweep to the worst team in baseball
Mitch Keller vs Bradley Blalock
Another game, another lead that disappeared for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, losing their second straight game to the Colorado Rockies, 8-5.
The collapse casts a dark cloud over the incredible performance by Liover Peguero, who hit three home runs and drove in all five runs for the Pirates.
He was the first Pirate to hit three home runs in a game since 2022, and is the fourth youngest overall.
Paul Skenes was dominant through five innings, but a Jordan Beck three-run home run started the comeback, and the Pirates’ top pitcher ended up allowing four runs in six-plus innings.
Braxton Ashcraft was hit with the loss after allowing three runs of his own.
The Pirates will now need a win to avoid getting swept by the worst team in baseball. Mitch Keller will be on the mound with a scheduled start time of 3:10 pm ET.
