Gameday 112: Pirates Return Home to Face The Braves
After getting a series split on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pirates return home to face the NL leading Atlanta Braves.
Backed by another quality start from Johan Oviedo, the Pirates were able to escape Milwaukee with a series split, something that hasn’t happened often in recent history.
Home runs from Bryan Reynolds (14), Connor Joe (8), and Endy Rodriguez (2) helped pave the way offensively, while Oviedo pitched seven shutout innings, with Colin Holderman and Carmen Mlodzinski closing the door.
They now open up a three game series at home against the first place Atlanta Braves, who recently dropped two of three games against the Chicago Cubs.
On the mound for the Braves will be Spencer Strider, who leads the majors in strikeouts by 31 going into Monday.
Osvaldo Bido will draw the start for the Pirates, who has completed at least four innings just once in his last six outings.
