Gameday 119: Pirates Take A Trip To New York For Series Against The Mets
The Pirates split the doubleheader on Sunday against the Reds, and now turn their attention to the New York Mets
If you looked at the schedule going into the season, and saw this series in the middle of August, how many would have predicted that the Pirates and Mets would have the same record?
Or that the Mets were bigger sellers at the deadline than the Pirates?
Probably not many on both accounts.
The Pirates head to New York to take on the Mets in a three game series of two teams with a 53-65 record. Pittsburgh dropped two of three over the weekend against the Cincinnati Reds, while the Mets pitched was beat up, really bad.
They played four games in three days against the Atlanta Braves, and while they won on Sunday, they allowed 34 runs in the ones prior.
On Saturday alone, playing in a doubleheader, they were outscored 27-3.
This works out well for the Pirates, who have scored 36 runs over there last seven games (5.14 per game).
Pitching wise, Quinn Priester takes the mound, according to Jason Mackey. He will be looking for his third win of his career facing the Mets for the first time.
