Gameday 125: Pirates look to rebound in Texas with Mitch Keller on the mound
Mitch Keller vs Cody Bradford
Two bad pitches were all the Texas Rangers needed to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.
Corey Seager capitalized on Luis Ortiz catching too much of the plate twice, both home runs, and drove in all four runs for the home team, eventually winning 4-3.
Luis Ortiz had a solid outing other than those two pitches, striking out seven in six innings pitched.
It’s been a common theme for Ortiz as late, with just a few mistakes costing him some otherwise solid outings as a starter.
Dennis Santana and Jalen Beeks pitched the final two innings for the Pirates, who dropped to 58-66 on the season.
Jared Triolo launched a three-run home run in the fourth inning off starter Dane Dunning. It was his sixth of the season. The Pirates once again outhit an opponent; they just trailed under the spot in the box score that mattered the most.
Tuesday, they will have Mitch Keller on the mound, looking for his 11th win of the season. It’s been a rough two-start stint for him, as he has allowed 15 earned runs in nine innings against the Dodgers and Padres.
