Gameday 130: Can The Pirates Build Off Of First Win Of Season Against Cubs?
After a brilliant outing by Mitch Keller, the Pirates look to make it two in a row against the Chicago Cubs
Pittsburgh won their first game of the season against the Chicago Cubs after losing their first seven, backed by an excellent outing by Mitch Keller.
The All-Star righty pitched eight shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six batters.
David Bednar closed it out for his 28th save of the season. Andrew McCutchen and Josh Palacios each drove in a run in the first inning, with the Pirates hanging on again.
Saturday they will get creative with their pitching again, with Colin Selby opening and is expected to be followed by Osvaldo Bido.
They will face Jordan Wicks, a former first round pick, who will be making his major league debut.
The game will be televised nationally, with a start time around 7:15 pm ET.

You gotta feel bad for all of these people who buy tickets just to see Skenes and he doesn't even make it out of the first. I don't blame the Pirates at all for limiting his pitch counts, the guy was well over his 2022 innings just during his college season.
What I didn't know until literally seconds before first pitch was that they were hoping to get two innings out of him, depending on the pitch count. I assumed he was going to keep getting extended to possibly three innings today, but it feels like they are doing the right thing and keeping him limited
Tonight's game is definitely showing me that we need to bring in 2 SPs next year, probably VV and someone else respectable. 3 bullpen games a week is just not a recipe for any sort of success. We were lucky to only give up 3 through 7 on thursday
