Gameday 131: Pirates Look For Series Split Against Chicago Cubs
The Pirates will have Bailey Falter on the mound, who is coming off his first win of the season.
Colin Selby was fantastic in making his first ‘start’ as the opener, striking out three in two perfect innings. Things kind of went off the rail from that point forward, as Osvaldo Bido allowed eight runs in 2.1 innings - which included five walks.
He was optioned back to Indianapolis this morning with Cody Bolton taking his spot in the bullpen.
Ke’Bryan Hayes led off the home half with his 10th home run of the season against Jordan Wicks, who was making his major league debut.
From there the lefty took control of things, striking out nine in five innings of work to pick up his first major league win.
Bailey Falter will get the call on Sunday, coming off his first win of the season after pitching six innings of one-run base with eight strikeouts against the St. Louis Cardinals.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 pm ET.

Paul Skenes’ time in Altoona didn’t get off to the best of starts, failing to get out of the first inning, ending up allowing four runs in his Double-A debut.
Not only did Skenes pitch for the Pirates’ Double-A team, two other first round pitchers from 2023 faced other affiliates at different levels.
Yesterday I wrote about how hot of a start Joe Perez got off to, and that continued on Saturday, as he hit his sixth home run of the season.

Kyle Nicolas as a starter in AAA: 10.59 ERA
As a reliever: 4.91. His first relief appearance was 4 innings following a 1-inning rehab for Yohan Ramirez, really more like a start. If you drop that, it’s 2.93. K/9 in relief is 13.5.
Bubba Chandler moved to the Development List. I'm sure they could still squeeze a start or two out of him, but this late in the season, it's also a possibility we've seen the last of him this year. Which sucks because I planned the Greensboro trip around when he should be starting.
