Gameday 132: Jared Jones returns as Pirates attempt to rebound from blowout loss
Jared Jones vs Justin Steele
The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn’t build any momentum from taking three of four over the weekend and were blown out at home against the Cubs on Monday.
With a high pitch count, Mitch Keller only pitched four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks.
It got worse from there.
Domingo German allowed eight earned runs, Brady Feigl allowed six, and then Rowdy Tellez pitched in the ninth inning for the second time in three games.
In total, 18 runs on 21 hits and seven walks were allowed by the Pirates pitching staff.
Bryan Reynolds and Connor Joe hit home runs for the Pirates, who scored eight runs on 13 hits—with most of it coming with the game well out of hand.
Jared Jones will make his return to the mound on Tuesday. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since July 3.
The Cubs will send out Justin Steele as they look to lock up the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET.

Gotta get some innings from JJ so Tellez can get some rest.
Estuar Suero and Konnor Griffin having pretty good days down at the complex today
Saw an inning of Josh Hartle. Wyatt Sanford and Eddie Rynders played too.
