Nice to see them resting Rowdy's arm tonight. Don't want to wear out your key bullpen arm.

Luis Peralta with another scoreless inning, he's been lights out all year at every level.

Cruz with an .801 ops

Expand full comment

Cruz is hammering the ball.

Expand full comment

Maybe only bench him for a week then.

Expand full comment

That or extend him.

Our Buccos with the 4th highest K rate in the majors. Dreadful

Expand full comment

I always look at HR's first and figure a high K rate for those players. Then I look at the ratio of K's to Walks. Worst on our team right now is BDLC in a SSS, but of the "regulars", the worst is Nick Gonzales with a Ratio of 5.18 K's for every 1 BB. Tellez and Bart are above 3/1, but have hit a double figure number of HR's. Oneil Cruz is a 4.13 K's for every BB, but he has hit 18 HR, second on the team, so he gets a pass.

They are on pace for the team record. Current rate would have them at 1,507 for the season. Record is 1,497.

It's the weather.

Amazingly bad!

Severino hit for the cycle for Bradenton, that's some good news. Mueth pitched good, in 2 or 3 maybe 4 years we might have reinforcements.

Expand full comment

move severino to greensboro. do it.

We have 7 hits; they have 7 hits. They have 9 runs we 3. Love it!

Davis in mid season form, but at least he plays the game right. 🥸

His arm doesn't come unattached when he swings a bat like Endy's so there's that.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately his bat rarely hits the ball.

Expand full comment

I don't think Endy's did when he had his freak swing injury either

Fire Shelton....tonight!

Expand full comment

yeah but who are we hiring to replace him?

Expand full comment

I’ve seen the list: Tony Muser. Pedro Grifol. Mike Redmond. Don Wakamatsu. Cecil Cooper.

Expand full comment

Cervelli has expressed interest.

Expand full comment

Skip Shumaker. John Wehner. Pretty much anybody.

Cutch!

Anyone know the last time a position player had to close out three games in four days? Maybe it’s never happened.

Expand full comment

I'd let Cruz sling it.

Cherington is showing the same skill with bullpens that he does with hitters.

Expand full comment

A rare skill indeed.

In the pregame they showed nutting in the dugout. Hope he’s still there.

Pirates are 1269-1511 since Bob Nutting took over as principal owner in 2007. I'm sure embarrassing baseball has no impact on him by now.

Expand full comment

Yeah he's definitely numb to it.

Expand full comment

How many winning season with Nutting as owner?

Expand full comment

4

Expand full comment

4. Totally reasonable amount in 17 years right?

Expand full comment

All Huntington

Expand full comment

I'm how many years?

Expand full comment

17 but there have only been the same number—4—since 1993 obviously. 2238-2741 which is worth nothing but a laugh.

Expand full comment

21?

Eerily similar to 2017 when Glasnow, Cole & Taillon went into Wrigley & all 3 got rocked.

Hopefully Skenes ends the movie differently this time.

I figure the "top 3" tankathon slots are locked up but Pirates still have a shot at 4.

Expand full comment

Would be absolutely hilarious if the White Sox still didn't get the first pick, even after the season they are having

Expand full comment

They can't get it. Both they and Oakland are out of the lotto. https://www.tankathon.com/mlb

Expand full comment

That's even more hilarious lol

Expand full comment

It is until we go 60-102 next year and are out of the lotto :(

Expand full comment

We would still be in the lotto, with having the 9th pick this year, it reset our clock. We're good for 25 and 26 as long as the payroll is high enough other teams give Nutting money to help pay salaries lol. Can't make this shit up.

Expand full comment

They sure showed Bob Nutting with this draft lotto! Forcing that inveterate loser and penny-pincher to have a $12M draft pool while he avoids spending $80M on free agents is a real "we got him, Dirk" moment.
