8-run 9th inning for Indy. That was fun. Cooke makes last out looking at strike 3 center cut on 0-2 count, with two on. Indy come back falls short 13 - 9.
Remember when Connor Scott was a thing a few weeks ago? He had a .682 OPS in his first 19 games with Biloxi, then everyone went nuts because he had a great week? He put up a .610 OPS over the next 14 games, before getting injured early in the last game. Went on the IL today. Raise your hand if you were one of those people who thought he was fixed due to a great week?
He's still putting up numbers closer to his 2021 with the Marlins compared to his time in Altoona. Sure it's a small sample but he never put together close to 150 plate appearance in a row as good in the Pirates organization. Baseball is a Rollercoaster there's ups and downs, it's also hard. Still think he's a long shot to ever make the show, I thought his hitting days were over when he was cut.
He has a .763 OPS in 147 PAs. Go to 2022 in Altoona and he had a .771 OPS in his first 151 PAs and a .736 OPS over his final 151 PAs that year. I'd say those are three similar stretches.
Your right he was at his best with the Pirates organization when he first got there and at the end of that first year. You take out the first 6 games he played for Altoona it hurts those numbers a bunch, pretty much like taking out his hot week in Biloxi. You only have to take out 1 game a month over the last 2 months in '22 to drop his OPS around .700 for his last 151 plate appearances.
But he had a .654 OPS over 33 games (123 PAs) and a 1.351 OPS over six games (24 PAs) in the middle. It was quite literally a great week, and even in that week he had two games with no hits.
The July numbers look good because he wasn't there the whole month and the All-Star break was right in the middle, so when he went four games with one hit to start August, he was down to a .682 OPS. He had that one week stretch, then put up a .610 OPS after that point, before getting hurt.
The problem was that people went nuts at the end of that one week. No one brought up his name in July, or even the day before the streak started, but people lost their mind over a .291 average and an .847 OPS with Biloxi. Calmer heads such as myself pointed out that it was such a small sample size that it was being skewed by the one week, which proved to be true.
Not seeing it. He was fairly consistent in August. 8 doubles, 2 HRs. Finished last 3 games in August 7 for 12. Any way you look, he's been much better in his new org than April- June in Altoona.
I can't explain any better that he's been bad except one week, but I will say that the Pirates clearly wrote him off this year. He was on the development list for a time and a backup the rest of the time. He had 87 plate appearances in 69 games, so it's not exactly a surprise that he didn't do well in such a limited role. He was healthy and played three games in April.
As I said in the comments above, we have seen two similar stretches with the Pirates, so it's not like he's doing something he's never done before. We could also find plenty of stretches where he hit like his first 19 games and last 14 games if we want to lower the bar.
There was also be zero people excited about him posting a .763 OPS for Altoona right now if he didn't get cut because he's a Double-A vet about to turn 25 years old (and he's injured). He was also 4-for-12 in his final three August games, not 7-for-12.
Of the three position player signings, his was the best (and necessary after Endy's injury). I'm skeptical as to whether MAT or Tellez will even get major league deals this offseason, but Grandal almost surely will.
I wouldn't call it _good_. At $2.5M it was *ok* but he's literally the worst catcher in the league at controlling the running game, his game calling is shite, his hitting has trended upward and he's sitting at a 83 wRC+. I think Grandal having any positive value is further proof both WAR variants are goofy about defense.
Random. But this one is for t wins and his brief saki time. Follow me.
Was feeding one of my beehives without socks. Swarmed my ass and feet were swollen so I couldn't walk. Next day 15 year old dog died. Guess who had to dig the hole?
Had my bee suit on. But wore no socks in my muck boots. Bees lost their shit when I opened the hive. Attacked my ankles and feet. Can't outrun bees. Especially when they are attacking your feet. At least I can't. Feet were ballooned up. Following day my 15 year old dog didn't wake up. Those ballooned feet had to work a shovel to get her deep enough that the coyotes didn't dig her up. Sucked.
Tedwins was posting buzzed up from Singapore the other day. Stereotyped it may have involved saki. Thanks for the interest.
Seeing Built to Spill next week. Not sure if you are a fan.
Agree. I threw my toys out of the pram a week or six ago. So here goes.
My wife is in the mountains on a rewilding girls trip. I had terrapin beers that's upper 8s on abc. Boiled shrimp with horseradish heinz ketchup cocktail sauce. Sis is here and bought the lad and lass stuffed crust pizza.
Check out Ralphie roams on YouTube. See if you can guess who he is. Or not.
Just harvested 89 lbs of sweet potatoes.
Bet my kids have the runs tomorrow. More than the Bucs will score all weekend.
must have been delayed in Daytona. Doubleheader scheduled and the first pitch in game one is at 6:45? Even at 7 innings per game they will be there until midnight.
My Daugher says the same thing a guy I went to IUP with 40 years ago said when someone sees the address as Aliquippa—-“ I don’t live in Aliquippa I live in Hopewell!” Lol !!
I guess my great great grandfather was a doctor who built his own house on a hill in Aliquippa. He had two kids: a son (my grandfather) and a schizophrenic daughter. Left the house to the daughter and she lost it to taxes. The woman my grandfather married was from Hopewell Twshp. Her dad a steel mill foreman. I grew up in the Midwest so—despite visiting a handful of times—none of this has a lot of lived meaning for me. It's all just "Pittsburgh". My uncle—my fathers older brother who had more memories of growing up in Pennsylvania—brought us a lot of bags of Snyders and Wise potato chips and some chipped ham when we were kids.
JD come back and do the minor league recap the way you used to way back in the days, the top 25-30 and their line from the previous day. Best way to keep track of the top prospects!
I liked that way until people complained about it. Either we needed to update the list, or there were too many pitchers on it, or too many injured players, so there were barely any players being updated each day. That was despite us always putting the boxscore link there, plus recapping the game. I don't miss that part of writing.
I do remember and I appreciated it. Half of our complaints were that Joe guy who complained about everything. He got mad on either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day once because there was no posts and he paid for a subscription. It was literally the only day of the year without at least one article and he complained
As long as OSU loses, Root for every team that plays against them lol! l had to live in Buckeye land for about 3 years in th 80’s…..got to watch a ton of Big 10 football back then as that was the only games on TV then. Moved back just as PSU joined the conference and all of the PSU fans were bragging how PSU was gonna rule the B1G… saw so many upsets every week cause no matter who had the talent, each week was like a bowl game for the teams with lesser talent. Made for great games if you had,no dog in the fight.

Haines must be working with him already!
Bae will never pass this way again (mlb).

He had .741 OPS in July and .788 in August. ???

Look at his game log on milb.com. It wasn't one good week. Correction he was 4-12 for 7 total bases last 3 games of August.
Whatever......not sure what point you're making.
He didn't go 7-for-12, he went 4-for-12
Peggy too slow on the 4-6-3. Gotta throw overhand to Yorke not a soft backhand toss.
For anyone interested in just how bad our position players have been - Yasmani Grandal is fourth on the team in fWAR…..
Of the three position player signings, his was the best (and necessary after Endy's injury). I'm skeptical as to whether MAT or Tellez will even get major league deals this offseason, but Grandal almost surely will.
And Ben will brag about that signing lol
It was, in fact, a good one.
I wouldn't call it _good_. If you filter for 2nd half, he's 2nd, only behind Cruz. And he has the team's best wRC+... by a lot.
And I'm watching Indy get shut out on 3 hits thru 5. The future is so bright.
See below. I'm watching Altoona and our top LHP prospect got shellacked and was in the showers before getting thru 2 innings.
So PSN showing Altoona v Yard Goats. Solometo having a disaster of 2nd inning. Four runs already in, still no outs.
Edit: Solometo out after giving up 6 in 2nd inning, still no outs. Looked extremely hittable.
I think Solo is cooked as a prospect. Stuff seems bad and his “deceptive” delivery sure doesn’t seem to be deceiving anyone.
An unfortunate “thank you” for making me feel like I’m not the only pirate fan who has no clue what people see in him.
Mid stuff and you can pick up the ball all the way from Blawnox. Nothing “deceptive” about that delivery by big league standards.
Random. But this one is for t wins and his brief saki time. Follow me.
Was feeding one of my beehives without socks. Swarmed my ass and feet were swollen so I couldn't walk. Next day 15 year old dog died. Guess who had to dig the hole?
I read this three times and I’m still not sure I comprehend what is going on, which is awesome.

Sorry to hear about your dog mate, im sure that was tough🙏
Thanks. Live on a farm so we lose a various chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, ect. But dogs are tough.
At some point post needs to be about the pirates. Nutting sucks
Guess your bees did not like the quality of what you were feeding them…..l
A diabetics nightmare. It was 2-1 sugar water.
You must have been using generic brand sugar and tap water. Bees were like “what’s this crap? We wanted Domino and Evian!!”
Every time there's a rainout I think of Los Lobos
Post the link

Yorke at SS.....is that norm?
3rd start at SS. Never been there in previous minors.
The comment section hasn’t been the same since Green Winnie stop posting what he was having for dinner.

Later
You gonna give the Greenie a run for his money! 😂
Did a garlic shrimp saute here with spaghetti, lots of fresh basil & cherry tomatoes.
Onions?
Bill Raftery?
Cashew chicken take out with an egg roll!
Just got our teeth brushes out. Told them we don't live in WV. No offense. Like the Bucs at the deadline.
No rogues? Kid just screamed done pooping. Give me a minute to check back. Girl is up 1 on the boy.
LOL!! Rogues 2 nights ago. If one of my kids would yell that the were done pooping I would yell back so what? Thought you what to do years ago!!!!
Mine aren't 36 Bobby.
Lol got a 3 year old grandson. My daughter and son in law can do the teaching with him 🤣🤣
must have been delayed in Daytona. Doubleheader scheduled and the first pitch in game one is at 6:45? Even at 7 innings per game they will be there until midnight.
Esmerlyn Valdez hit #22. It'd be nice if they moved him to Greensboro for the playoffs.
It's not even raining in Pittsburgh? Start the damn game......can always resume it tomorrow.
I was looking forward to a game on Fri. Night.
Yeah, looks like they could've actually got an official game in, although to be fair, didn't look like that 3 hrs ago.
Steaming like hell in Hopewell Twp. Gonna be raining for a while would have wasted a start for Ortz.
What exactly is steaming?
Lol! Storming! #@#$&# autocorrect!!
Have you seen the pirates in the last month?
Oh sputtering, like black smoke. With an ugly clunking noise?
That, and 💩
That's where my people are from. Well, some of them.
My Daugher says the same thing a guy I went to IUP with 40 years ago said when someone sees the address as Aliquippa—-“ I don’t live in Aliquippa I live in Hopewell!” Lol !!

28 man rosters now. Shouldn't be a problem.
No just would suck for Luis to waste a start for no reason.
Still no rain, it's north of the Burgh. 45 minutes, they've got 3 innings in by now.
Yea, I kept watching the futore radar and was supposed to be over city by 7:30……the weather channel lies again!!
Why can't I get Indy game on mlb.tv? Do I need to pay more?
None of the MLB games are loading, I've got issues.
Connectivity solved. Gonna watch Indy!
In time to see that blast off Cesna
And my first look at Nunez.
So is this now a minor league thread for the rest of tonight?
When I saw this I figured they were down 12-0 in the 2nd inning or something.
JD come back and do the minor league recap the way you used to way back in the days, the top 25-30 and their line from the previous day. Best way to keep track of the top prospects!

People like him just like to ruin things for everyone else, that’s too bad you all have to put up with it.
I’ll be turning my attention to Northwestern Wildcat football at 9:00. Go Cats!
Don't hate them, and appreciate how their coach handled last year....but go Hawkeyes!

Well that was sure a nice bus ride into town sigh
We are facing 3 lefties in a row, hopefully Bart is all the way back.
