It was as high as 1,507 in the last month I believe, though I didn't check the pace every day, just every high strikeout day. They ended up tied for third for the team total by the end of the game
Easily. The cliff after Adam Frazier and Ke'Bryan Hayes is steep. Bear in mind, Hayes is likely going to take the crown by at least 10 WAR if he plays long enough. That's brutal.
Meadows has never been healthy and good for a long enough stretch to really accumulate WAR. WAR is a game for accumulators. Even a dude like Barry Bonds had to put in a lot of years to make astronomical numbers.
If the Pirates decide Bubba is ready for MLB next year, I wonder what they could get for Ortiz. Seems to have good stuff, but I'm not sure he can sustain his current success. I don't expect them to trade him, since it is unlikely all the starters are healthy, and he did well as a long reliever. But I don't think his value will ever be higher, and starters are in high demand.
The guy would be absolutely lights out in a short-relief role. That has been my contention all along: that he should be in a short-relief role. Once his velocity starts dropping (like when throwing 40 pitches in one inning), neither has fastball nor his slider plays very well. When he is pumping the fastball at his best velocity, he is nasty.
Been my contention since I first saw him pitch. It seemed to me that the Pirates saw what the Braves did with Strider and thought it would apply to Ortiz. I don't think it does.
Yeah, I think a lot of people across baseball didn't understand how unique Spencer Strider is. There's a reason very few guys like Strider thrive as starters.
On the positive side, if you ignore the second inning, the Pirates won this game. I take it where I can get it.
Looks like Greensboro is going down. Down 4-1 in the 9th.
I doubt Capps got Block's joke, but I appreciated it.
Termarr 3 for 3 with 2 walks, something positive
It’s the bench for him tomorrow.
I'm hoping they ignore the double, 2 runs and 2 rbi's.
BDLC with another memorable contribution to the season.
They should release him after the season.
He’s over .200 as a Pirate. That makes him one of BC’s best acquisitions.
Most strikeouts in a season by a pair of Pirates teammates:
1. 2013 Pedro Alvarez/Starling Marte 324
2. 2012 Pedro Alvarez/Andrew McCutchen 312
3. 2023 Jack Suwinski/Bryan Reynolds 310
4. 2024 Oneil Cruz/Bryan Reynolds 309
Most strikeouts in a season, Pirates player:
1. Pedro Alvarez 186
2. Pedro Alvarez 180
3. Jack Suwinski 172
4. Craig Wilson/Oneil Cruz 169
Most strikeouts season, Pirates team:
1. 2022 season 1,497
2. 2023 season 1,464
3. 2012 season 1,354
4. 2024 season 1,351
On pace for 1,499 this year. I'll worry when it hits 1,500 ;-)

So much for the joy of beating up on inferior opponents.
The Royals are into it.
I view the other teams as the Washington Generals.
That’s how Nuttin views the Pirates.
Has there been one game this season where the opponent scores big early and we immediately punch back with the same amount?
KC doing exactly what a contender should do to a pretender.
Sal Perez with a career year at age like 57, my goodness.
Well he hit 48 homers in ‘21…
He was 54 then.
The only starter in baseball who's worst the first time through the order (do not fact check me), sheesh.
Skenes might be his worst first time through the order
Back in the majors. Funny that Cherington didn't wait until this series to give Shelton his vote of confidence.
Robbie Grossman has had a fine career, 10 bWAR and 22Million earned, not too shabby👏
Gotta be one of like the top 5 Huntington position players drafted, right?

I was thinking guys like meadows, McGuire, Mercer & Pedro would be up there but not so much

I found Adam Frazier and Hayes with more total bWAR than Grossman...im using an old WTM P2 article to help search
I'll confirm that. Used B-R's draft pages.
Hell, even adding in pitchers that NH drafted, Grossman is still 5th overall in WAR.
That's ugly.
Cole
Glasnow
Taillon
Keller
Grossman?
Grossman still has bwar advantage over glasnow and keller, holding on🤣
Im researching that now🤣

Given the bullpen depth, it's probably best to dump Ortiz to the pen and use him as a long relief and 6th SP type.
Short of a team making an offer the Pirates can't refuse, there isn't much cause to trim necessary depth next year.

I'd like to see Ortiz in the bullpen. I just don't think he has a complete enough arsenal to be a starter.

At the risk of putting the whammy on the kid, I see Triolo's last 15 games showing .306 BA and .900+ OPS.
Now tell us how we drop KeBryans contract
Man I love interleague ball, stoked to see the boys take on Bobby Whit.
Bobby Whit has accumulated 47% of the entire team's position player WAR. One player!
Bummed we miss Cole Ragans, currently rocking the 4th highest pitcher WAR in all of baseball.
Fun fact, KC acquired Ragans last year from Texas for none other than...Aroldis Chapman. Flags fly forever, they say as they cry in their cheerios.
Flags flying forever wins every time. The point of the game is a WS championship.
If Bucs were only a couple games worse end of July, we might've cashed in Chappie for something shiny.
They found the cheat code in rebuilds
It’s not a cheat sheet, just a competent front office.
