It's really striking how different things are when the Pirates run up against serious major league teams. Since Cherington's deadline "improvements," they're 2-15 against teams currently sitting in playoff spots.
Perhaps a fairer assessment is their record against teams with winning records since the trade deadline, which just adds the 4-5 they went against the Mariners and Cubs, two teams barely above .500. Still, 6-20 tells me that we're farther from contending than what Cherington and Shelton will have us believe when we finish with a similar record as last year.
The Marlins let us win because they didn't want Shelton to get fired and end up in Miami. The Royals won't because they're hoping he'll end up in Cleveland.
Looking over the Bradenton hitters write up I noticed a few things about these three players: polanco, campagna and Delosantos. All are fast, great athletes, signed for large bonuses and can not hit a lick. Seems to me the pirates like fast athletic players that they mistakenly think they Will hit or they can be taught to hit. However, this philosophy has failed miserably.
It's funny what happens when a team that's trying to win plays one that isn't. It's almost like it's an advantage if you're trying. Maybe Cherington could get some of his legions of stooges out of the clubhouse long enough to research it.
Yep a reality check from beating the Marlins and Nats. That's the pitch that needs to be made to Nutting.....but it's almost a waste of even suggesting that.
The ultimate week was going 0-6 against the Padres. Expanding that to two weeks that let BC know who we really are, 2-4 vs Dbacks and 0-3 vs Dodgers......it was fast and painful, good morning, good night, good bye.....season over.
Does Cleveland’s AAA affiliate ever lose?
Indy has won a bunch of games recently and can’t seem to make up any ground.
WTM Termarr not in the lineup today. Didn’t you make a joke about this very thing happening…
Yep, but I was only half joking. It's just so. damn. Shelton.

The home plate ump has early dinner reservations. Terrible. MLB must hold these umps accountable.
Oh word is he's a WVU fan and needs to cross the parking lot, kickoff underway.
Bubic really good clutch execution......impressive.

BDLC has become laughable at this point. I won’t just make outs, I’ll make two at a time, because I am actually (secretly) playing for the opposition.

Wow. I guess he knew this was his last week in pro ball.....ever......to make that dumb decision.
Whoa!
Cook does not appear to be the answer to improve the teams hitting. Lets give Yorke a chance to fail or succed.
You are joking…whether you know it or not.
I will take that as a positive reply.

The old scouting adage, you can’t teach a kid to hit.

I would be concerned that BDLC has 39 k’s and 2 walks since his arrival if I didn’t realize that he does have homer.
Glad Yorke is down at Indy batting .340 so we can see these stellar MLB hitters go at it!
Can't wait to retain BDLC for no conceivable reason whatsoever beyond BC's pride.
I know there are scoring nuances with earned runs, but that 4th run should not be earned against Mitch.
I was thinking the same thing.
Ok, it's been corrected. Thought so.
So many reminders about why we are under .500
Our record against teams over .500 certainly speaks for itself.
