10 down. 71 to go.

Bucs are (now, fast forwarding two days) in second place, one game behind the Brewers.

CARROTS ON THE HOUSE!!!

@> One delicious love root to The Renegade for snapping it back into shape, earning the save.

We were not worried even a little hit! HA!

@>@> Two herbs of good vision to Henry Davis: 2 for 3 with a double, 2 runs and 2 rbi and a walk.

Nice.

@>@>@> Three of my heart's desire for Bailey Falter for 5 innings of one run ball against the team that gave up on him.

Welp, 10 down & now 147 to go……

Be one thing if he was hitting for power all of a sudden, but Jebb is striking out/whiffing way too much for a contact guy with no power in High A

Offense has been very bad this series. Fortunate to be in a position to tie the series tomorrow

Folks are going to blame the bullpen, but they lost this one by going 0-7 wRISP.

That or the Hank passed ball

Other than the Cruz HR, the offense was a complete no-show again. Starting to become a trend... lamentably... a predictable one.

Expand full comment

That frequently cited (by Brown, Block, and Mackey anyway) league-leading HR stat in ST is a distant memory that's getting hard to remember if it actually happened. Maybe when the weather warms up, like it is this week, we'll see some pop return.

IOW, it's turning into a standard Cherington/Shelton offense.

w/Haines in tow!

And thank god they didn't pinch hit for Williams 😁

It's a little different playing the Phillies and Orioles than the Marlins without most of their rotation. Tomorrow is Zack Wheeler. They are probably going to need Keller at his very best.

Dang. Bullpen was sub optimal today. Get ‘em tomorrow.

Expand full comment

Bullpen has been pretty sub optimal all season so far. Big disappointment.

Expand full comment

That's huge from Holderman. If he can come back and be what he was last year the Bucs have a top BP.

Doesn’t look like Hank and Chapman are on the same page.

Expand full comment

I like it... going with Chapman in the 7th against Schwarber, Turner, and Harper. Strategery... what is this? Good stuff, Shelton.

Expand full comment

Agreed... but time to get him TFOT now!

Expand full comment

I agree even knowing how it is going so far. Top of the order, go with one of your best. Unfortunately this is the risk of Chapman, hope he gets out of it.

Soto needs to do the Hulk Hogan hand to the ear.

Expand full comment

I assume that is it for Gonzales. 2 runs in 6 innings is great for your 5th starter.

Seems like we complain more than opponents about ball/strike calls but maybe thats just me

Really have to credit Marco for hanging in there. Looked like a Wil Crowe kinda game for a minute there.

Way early in the season (still holy small sample Batman), but he has greatly exceeded my expectations. I had him in the 'we got him basically free' so we can dump him category when Lauer and/or German were stretched out.

Expand full comment

He looks to me like he has recovered 100% from the nerve issue. There is no way you dump him if that is the case. The guy was a good pitcher prior to the injury, and the beauty of it is that you have a club option on him for next year at 12 million. If he is recovered, that is worth something, even if the Pirates opt to trade him.

Expand full comment

I agree... I just didn't have high hopes and thought he was a low risk / easily disposed of pitcher if he had not recovered. As i said... way too early for major conclusions for any player, but he has impressed.

Expand full comment

If he is back to the guy he was before, Anthopolous is going to have some real egg on his face for being handed a solid pitcher as a salary-dump throw-in on the Kelenic deal, eating most of his salary, and giving him away: especially now with Strider gone for the year.

Just coming into this thread and getting the game on, I would have thought Philly struck out 45 guys in 5 innings. Pretty far from it, apparently.

Expand full comment

Runners left in scoring position, 2 out: Davis(K); Olivares 2(K); Suwinski 2 (2 Ks). Coming into this game, the Pirates had struck out 135 times. Only one team in the national league has struck out more often. There is reason for the complaints.

Expand full comment

Seventh in runs, third in walks. Walks and Ks often go hand in hand. But sure, whine away.

Expand full comment

Double like.. for a team 10-4 and in a close game, we sure aren't happy.

Expand full comment

Its wild to me that cruz can casually hit a 108mph oppo bomb without looking like he really got it all

Expand full comment

He’s gonna bunt one out someday.

Been waiting for one of those.
