Gameday 19: Pirates look to avoid sweep in New York with Bailey Falter on the mound
Pirates dropped the first two games against the Mets
Jared Jones was fantastic but was pulled from the game, having thrown 59 pitches across five shutout innings. The bullpen couldn’t hold the 1-0 lead, and the offense never amounted to much on the night anyways.
All of that spells disaster as the Pirates are on the brink of being swept by the New York Mets.
The struggling offense could be without Ke’Bryan Hayes again, as he was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday. They have an off day after the game before heading back to Pittsburgh for a series against the Red Sox.
Bailey Falter, who has been solid for the Pirates since allowing five earned runs in his first inning of the season, will get the start.
Luis Severino will be on the mound for the Mets with an expected start time of 1:10 pm ET.

All early MiL games today, except Indy in a delay. Barco with a good outing so far. Chang had a very good start for Bradenton. Ben Heller is on now for his second inning. Up to 96 and starting to carve up the young guys. Have to think he’ll go to Indy or Altoona real soon, especially since their pens are both dumpster fires.
The Marauders’ offense is still in full Cherington mode. Total basket case.
Not sure whether it's been noted, but Jose Hernandez was optioned. Callup to be named later, Friday specifically.
Not many candidates as almost nobody at Indy is pitching even halfway decently, apart from the big guy. Nicolas has a good ERA, but he's walking a batter an inning. Mlod was just optioned a week ago and hasn't been especially good or bad. Could be a starter, or a reliever and they do the opener thing for now. Hard to see a viable candidate of either type apart from Lauer, and his last start wasn't that good.
