Just saw that Robert Stephenson is done for the year without throwing a pitch for the Halos this season. Elbow injury. No word yet what exactly the injury is yet an if any surgery will happen.
Not sure whether it's been noted, but Jose Hernandez was optioned. Callup to be named later, Friday specifically.
Not many candidates as almost nobody at Indy is pitching even halfway decently, apart from the big guy. Nicolas has a good ERA, but he's walking a batter an inning. Mlod was just optioned a week ago and hasn't been especially good or bad. Could be a starter, or a reliever and they do the opener thing for now. Hard to see a viable candidate of either type apart from Lauer, and his last start wasn't that good.
Your 1st baseman/cleanup hitter has only 1hr & 6rbi's. That's not going to win you many games and god only knows what's wrong with Bednar. Nothing in the way of hitting in the minors. Same old s@&t Bucco's. A future that just never gets here and won't until they spend a little money.
Among the regulars, exactly two guys are slugging higher than .362, and both are only a little over .400. It's a Cherington lineup. They can't hit. After five years of "rebuilding," this team is still most of a roster away from being a playoff caliber team. Yeah, great, they could have a strong rotation, but they'll end up like the 1984 Pirates, who led the NL in ERA and finished last. This endless settling for a guy who can't hit but plays good defense, or a guy who can't hit or play defense but is good in the clubhouse, is a recipe for losing. Successful organizations look to excel everywhere.
The last month of last season the Pirates had several pitchers that you could count on for multiple innings. The forgotten pitcher that we are missing might be Andre Jackson. He finished the season with a whip of 1.12 and opposing hitters hit under .200 against him.
Yeah I was assuming Jackson would be back with the Pirates. I asked Dodgers fans on Reddit about him when we acquired him. They reported he had some inconsistency but upside and he didn’t fit in with LAD because they can afford to be picky. Overall I thought he pitched well for us and had multi-inning range.
Then he wound up pitching in Japan. I assume because of $$$$
They still have a winning record, although that’s not going to last long playing this way. Today’s score doesn’t matter much. The outcome was predictable after those two close losses. It’s what they’ve often done in the past.
I don’t know if Yogi actually said, “Ninety-percent of this game is half mental” or not, but they’re in one of those periods when they need to take stock and decide whether they want to play the game and find a winning attitude instead of saying the same old tired things after losing like this and simply hoping things will improve. Another long losing streak might be coming up unless something happens to shake things up. Does Shelton have it in him? Maybe, but I’ve yet to see it.
Don't sweat it. Next up is the Red Sox, and they have had, thus far, the best pitching staff in baseball. Their starters have given up 25 runs total thus far, and their bullpen is even better. Seeing as this is baseball, the Pirates will probably score 7 runs a game against them.
Well... this is just some bad baseball. True team effort to suck... except the starting pitchers. If only 5 guys could carry a baseball team. Oh well... tomorrow is a new day.
Yes. He's always kinda sucked. Too many walks, too many HRs. FIP of 4.37 in AAA last year. Replacement level arm. I would guess he's removed from the roster at some point.
It was probably the best option. In the past, when Shelton did something stupid, he would blame the players for not executing. He has done far fewer stupid things this year. It really is the players who have not been executing lately.
Moscoso is an umpire to remember for all the wrong reasons. From squeezing and then baiting Chapman, to the balk call last night, to the no-call on the bobble, he's in Jerry Meals territory.

Guessing it's going to be Priester who will
start on Friday. They're not inclined to go to 4 days rest with tomorrows off day. And then they play 13 days in a row.
Probably correct. Website has Bos probables as TBD Keller Perez. Lauer went Tue so not him.

Spring Training home run leaders baby!
Meanwhile the O's have 3+ Hrs in 5 games in a row. Hope the comparisons take a rest betw their rebuild and our rebuild.
You mean Tellez isn’t very good? Shocking, NOT, but he’s not alone.

IDK how strong a rotation can get with two guys who have a 5 IP per game cap and another one with a 2x through the lineup cap.

So no offense and a sieve of a bullpen could be a problem? Damn!
Baseball is a simple game
You're describing Major League Baseball in the year 2024.
IDK, the Phillies pitching staff doesn’t operate with these limitations. Or maybe you meant something else
It's funny everyone thought we needed another starting pitcher or 2 but instead that's a strength and the rest of the team is mediocre
Mediocre?? MEDIOCRE??!!

I haven’t seen much evidence that Shelton is much more than a concierge. And I look.
Some clubs can probably win with a concierge, but I doubt this Pirates team is one of them.

Well poop……still 11 down and now 143 to go……
Did I miss Joey Bart going on the IL?
I think he is day to day. He got hit in the head in the bullpen yesterday according to Shelton.
That's 5 runs on 13 hits covering entire 3 game series. 1.7 rpg., 4.3 hits pg.
That's regression to the mean.
For that kind of snapback regression they should be wearing hans devices that NASCAR driver wear. No wonder my head hurts watching these guys

Tomorrow is indeed a new day...A good day for an off-day.
Wrong time to use the challenge. That should have been used when the game outcome was still in doubt......ie Lindor bobble.
I actually had a good LOL when I see our closer being used in mop up role......ahh the memories of bygone seasons are still with us today.
Does Stratton kinda suck this year?
Yes. He's always kinda sucked. Too many walks, too many HRs. FIP of 4.37 in AAA last year. Replacement level arm. I would guess he's removed from the roster at some point.
He was non-tendered in Nov. and there was so much demand for him that the Pirates re-signef him to Milb deal.
not bad this year until today.
I was so content with when they pulled falter and bringing in stratton… shows what i know lol
It was probably the best option. In the past, when Shelton did something stupid, he would blame the players for not executing. He has done far fewer stupid things this year. It really is the players who have not been executing lately.
We had a good game plan, but that pitcher didn't execute.
Damn, this bullpen…
A very nice outing today from Bailey Falter. The Rotation continues to impress
And the bullpen continues to depress.
We've had 8 baserunners and 2 errors from the mets but only one run, need that big hit

Angel Hernandez needed some competition
