I've already begun to lose interest in watching the games. Sad. Comments here have decreased by 75% during games, too. It seems that once again, early hope has been dashed as we recall the futility of having the same coaching staff and management year after year despite the increasingly alarming strikeout rates, saving players for a future that never arrives, and expect a different outcome from the same old penny-pinching, dumpster diving tactics.
I have absolutely no idea why he did nothing to upgrade the positions of need this offseason until Taylor fell into his lap near the end of spring training. Busch was an obvious trade target for an obvious position of need, and the price that the Dodgers exacted was not exorbitant. Really poor GMing, but that is par for the course with the Pirates. He did do a good job picking up some guys off the scrap hear this year (like Fleming). This offseason will come back to haunt the Pirates for years to come, I think.
Do they even recognize we have "positions of need"? A RH hitting CF who can defend and hit for power is 2-3 years away if we are thinking Lonnie White, Jr. I've been a broken record since before ST on Everson Pereira who is at AAA in the Yankee org.
At First Base, a bright spot is that Malcom Nunez, 23, is hitting well at AAA and he defends well at both 1B and 3B. He was a get from the Cardinals by BC along with Johan Oviedo, so I expect BC will be pushing him.
They are actually a little better than I expected. The starting pitching has been better than expected. The hitting will improve somewhat. They are slumping and facing some decent staffs right now (even elite staffs. Boston may be for real the best pitching staff in baseball). The bullpen is still a work in progress, and Bednar should be back to being Bednar soon. It will be ok. They have an outside chance to get a wild-card spot.
One of the worst games I’ve seen in person in recent memory. Priester way too hittable, per usual. Not that it mattered, he could’ve shut it down after the first two solo homers and gone 8 more innings and it wouldn’t have changed anything. Offense looks completely lost already. It’s going to be a long summer if things don’t turn around with the bats. Can’t afford to have everyone slumping at the same time…
The ranting and raving about pitching prospects is all fine and dandy, but the fate of this franchise rides on this current position group figuring it out at the plate. There’s no reinforcements waiting in the wings to take over if they can’t figure it out.
Good post, i had a similar post about a week ago stating my concerns with offense and couldnt see any compelling hope on the way, long way of saying we may have a real struggle unless core really performs🤷♂️
He's the real deal, and this Boston staff is no fluke. They brought in some new people on the analytics and coaching side and have moved to a movement-first and velocity-second model. They have a lot of these guys putting some cut on their fastballs and using breaking stuff more often. It is working wonders. Velocity isn't everything... apparently.
But seriously, what do they expect? So sick of signing mediocre vets. Plus, Cruz is struggling, Davis can’t hit, and Cutch is done. The offense is a total disaster.
Updated the site's top 25 prospect list since Priester has officially graduated. Also removed Jackson Wolf, who I completely forgot was still on there. So two new names to check out.

Same here. They should have signed a SP and why the heck didn't Cherington go after Michael Busch instead of letting the Cubs trade for him?

I think—and think I hope—Cherington is done for soon.

Wife and I left after the 6th, disgusted with the impotent offense and seeming nonchalance in all other aspects.
Welp, I was wrong….. no win # 12…..Billy Ray said he must have been feeling that Taco Bell he ate last night……11 still down and now 140 to go……..
Besides pitching, hitting, and defense(apologies to Triolo), the Pirates are having a bang up game.
Hey, at least we don’t have to wait for May.
How about we option some of our optionables....Triolo, Suwinski, Cruz, and call up some unfunked guys. Shake this thing up a bit
Bello mowing them down with ease.

It's getting harder & harder to watch this mediocre team. then again what should I expect from a poorly run cheap ass organization.
Greensboro showing how to strikeout, every batter already has a one, Jebb has 2. 10 K's in the 12 outs through 4 innings.
The quad A team, I mean the Big league club showed them how to do it.
Well... they had only struck out 3 times in the first 4 innings, so Davis, Taylor, Reynolds, and Hayes said, "Hold My Beer!"
It's the Cherington signature.
This year’s collapse seems to be starting earlier.
The under performances have been stupendous. Our lefties aren't hitting at all.....Hoping for lefty mcthump and getting lefty the hump.

I see Reynolds wears #10, and so does Skenes. Who yields?
Skenes has #30 for the Pirates, at least during spring training. Was #23 at Air Force and #20 at Lsu.
First game wife and go to in two years and the T is all fricackta. Missed all the Red Sox fun.
0-33 Dalbec....no problem, Priester's on the mound. Double off the wall.
Cutch totally over-matched.
Rowdy’s speed threat caused the error 😁
Before he talks more about teaching the kids how to play the game, it would be nice to see him try a little harder. He almost got thrown out,
I had very low expectations for Tellez. He has managed to disappoint so far... somehow..
