Gameday 29: Pirates go for series win against Giants
Jared Jones set to pitch for the Pirates in series finale
Bryan Reynolds and Ke’Bryan Hayes hit home runs for the Pirates in extra-innings, just enough to sneak out a win to tie their series with the Giants up at one.
Taking a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 10th, David Bednar allowed a two-run home run to Jorge Soler but then retired the next three batters to earn the save.
Martin Perez pitched six innings of one-run baseball (unearned), walking two and striking out four. Hunter Stratton picked up the first win of his major league career after getting the final two batters out in the ninth inning.
Bednar picked up his fifth save of the save, but it’s certainly been a struggle for him, as the home run was already the third he’s allowed this season, while his ERA currently sits at 11.70.
The Pirates will look to grab the series win with Jared Jones on the mound. Keaton Winn will pitch for the Giants, and the game is expected to start at 4:05 pm ET.

Yesterday’s Feature
Nick Gonzales is off to a fantastic start for the Indianapolis Indians, putting up video game numbers. We know there will be some drop off at some point, but how much should we expect? Should he get an opportunity in the majors?
Today’s Feature
Garret Forrester didn’t get off to the best of starts this season but is slowly chipping away at things. How is he doing it? I take a look at some of his hits this week that have had a very common theme to them.

At Oracle park, about 5 rows just left of home plate. Nice park, a win will make it better.
Was about to post on previous thread about Shelton, but will continue the discussion here.
I think the players generally like playing for him.
But that doesn't mean he's the right guy for the job. His in-game management/strategies are fair to poor. There's no way he should have pitched Chapman two games in a row Thurs and Fri. He threw 24 pitches, the majority from 100-103 mph on Thurs. He sends him out on Friday and he only could hit 97 and mostly went off-speed and thru only 8 strikes in 19 pitches. You don't do that with a max effort FB pitcher like Chapman.
He shouldn't have thrown Bednar 3 games in a row, it's only April! Didn't he learn from a prior season about over-using Bednar, when we lost him for 2 months?
I'll stick with my -6 WAR of Shelton. He could be credited with a couple wins in the 9-2 start such as hunting Delay and Alika and squeezing home a run. But he can also be credited with a few losses such as PH with Telez the other night. He also couldn't keep up with Brandon Hyde's substitutions of DH/catcher (Adley). He also doesn't put the steal sign on with the right counts and the right base runners. In any case, he's a -1 WAR per month, equalling -6 WAR over course if the season. Not good imo, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion here.
