Gameday 3: Jared Jones makes major league debut as Pirates look to clinch series
Bucs on Deck's fourth best prospect makes major league debut for Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have taken at least one high-upside prep pitcher and signed them to an over-slot deal in each draft under Ben Cherington.
Today, the first - Jared Jones - will make his major league debut after making the club out of camp.
Jones is among the minor league leaders in strikeouts since going pro, and his first-ever pitch in Bradenton went for 99 mph.
He’ll bring in a four-pitch mix, fastball, slider, curveball, and change-up, although he really focuses on the first two.
The Pirates are now 2-0 after defeating the Marlins 7-2 on Friday. Ryder Ryan pitched 1.2 innings to earn his first major league win. Josh Fleming also earned a rare three-inning save.
Ke’Bryan Hayes drove in two runs, scored two on his own, and picked up a pair of hits.
First pitch is expected to be at 4:10 pm ET.

My biggest question about Skenes was whether his command was truly plus to plus-plus, and I think he's answering that quickly. He's him.
Honeywell in now. Another guy I'm hopeful about.
