Gameday 38: Pirates look for series win against Angels
Martin Perez on the mound in sereis finale against the Angels
The Pirates got off to a good start, defeating the Angels in game one of their three-game set. Edward Olivares's grand slam and Mitch Keller's complete game helped.
Things were the polar opposite yesterday, as the bats fell silent once again, picked up only three hits, and were shutout 9-0.
Quinn Priester didn’t have his best outing following up on his previous one, but it didn’t really matter, as even allowing just a single run wouldn’t have been enough.
In the rubber match, the Pirates will send Martin Perez to face a familiar name.
The Pirates took Jose Soriano in the Rule 5 back in 2020, despite undergoing Tommy John surgery earlier in the year. He made a few rehab appearances down in Bradenton before having to undergo a second Tommy John surgery.
He was returned to the Angels and, after being a reliever last year in the majors, is now in the starting rotation.
First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 pm ET.
