Montgomery or Smith? I like them both, I'd rather have the bat but I don't trust this organization to develop him. Smith is straight up nasty. Only concern with him is his command. Gets a lot of swings out of the zone, might not play as well higher up. It doesn't look like poor control though, puts the ball where his catcher is set up.
Deciding run was done by the lead off double by Oilvares, Nick the fly ball to right advancing the runner to third, then Grandal the line drive to right that Suzuki botched. Either way, it is nice to see us do the little things for the run that didn't seem that important at the time.
Don't sweat Bednar. He's fine. Pirates did their usual mismanagement thing by not putting him on the IL and giving him some rehab in AAA to start the season. Has looked like Bednar his last few times out.
Careful now. He’s got a fan club, but how even they can continue to deny facts is baffling. They’re not doing the team or Suwinski any favors by continuing this fiasco. He’s not dumb. He knows full well how bad he’s been. He’s struggling and pressing, which is only making things worse.
At least the Cubs didn't have the good sense to PH Wisdom there. The only good thing that you can say about Shelton is that he does not cost 4 million per year unlike Council.
Wow. That is crazy for these guys: almost all of whom just push-button their way through the game, provide some soundbites for the media, and oversee practices.
There’s no rational explanation. Joe’s not a good first baseman, but he’s improved quite a bit this year and is certainly better than Tellez who is and has been just awful.
Good pitching duel in college tonight. Hagen Smith 6 innings 0 runs 0 walks 2 hits 14 strikeouts.
Ryan Prager 7 innings 0 runs 1 walk 5 hits 9 strikeouts.
Braden Montgomery 0 for 4 with 3 K's with Smith pitching
I saw he was mocked to the Pirates in KLaw’s most recent article

Sorry, should have clarified. I believe Smith went 3rd or 4th. Montgomery was mocked to the Pirates.
Thanks, I'd be happy with that.

Booyah!! 20 down and 117 to go!! Raise it!!!!
Nice win. Only 2 out of the wild card.
Raise it!
Well, it looks like the bullpen 'executed' tonight Shelton but you not so much!
Shelton just does what he is told.
I’m such a chicken, I stood and walk around the house the whole time Bednar pitch, taking a peek as I passed the TV. 🙈
Same here, i washed dishes so i could only hear and not watch
I fell asleep.

I gutted it out in a nervous sweat, lol.
Usual nonsense aside, nice win against a good team.
Good ballgame, coming down to bottom of 9th, can't ask for better game at Wrigley.
Jack with the Golden Sombrero…keep putting him out there! I’m sure he’ll come around!

Counsell making $8M per year.

And just who is that good for other than Nutting?
Seriously, can someone explain the rationale for bringing Rowdy into the game?
There’s no rational explanation. Joe’s not a good first baseman, but he’s improved quite a bit this year and is certainly better than Tellez who is and has been just awful.
Yes, Joe is a good firstbaseman. OAA: +3 career. UZR/150: 5.8.
Tellez: -20 and 0.7.
Shelton, typically, has it 180 degrees wrong.
There is no other word for it than stupid.
Shelton likes to anger the fans. Or it's an order from BC.
Lol
And fucking Shelton for sending him in for a defensive replacement
Bringing in Tellez as a defensive sub if funny, up until it isn't.
great, just great. Another Grandal error compounded with putting Tellez at 1b.
Double indemnity stupid!
Two of BC’s main free agent pickups.
Uh, that would be f***ups.
Fucking rowdy
