In the lineup listed above, there was an "o" missing from Triol - was that intentional?

Per Noah Hiles, the Pirates are one game away from tying the 1931 Boston Braves and the 1969 California Angels for the longest streak of games scoring four or fewer runs. The Bucs are at 25.

Big day tomorrow!

Obviously I desperately want the Pirates to bust out, but having come this far maybe they should at least make history and tie the record.

A rare failure for the "just walk Cruz" strategy on the part of the Reds.

All hail the Lumber Company, circa 2025!!!

In all seriousness, great work from Falter & Co for the almost impossible task of claiming victory tonight ⚾️⚾️⚾️

I’m sure someone has posted this before, but what is the MLB record for 4 or fewer runs?

26. The Pirates are one short.

ESPN is reporting that local police have arrested the guy who provided alcohol to the 20-year-old who fell onto the field at PNC.

Been on local news. His best friend who was with him at the game. Charged him with providing alcohol to a minor. I thought I heard was a misdemeanor. Prolly a fine.

Yes, a misdemeanor per the AP. Hearing is the third week in June.

It’s weird: the guy’s name is Kirkwood and the guy who fell is named Markwood. Odd coincidence.

Had you told me that going into game 50 the Pirates would have a better record than The Orioles I would have been very excited…

Some of this will remind you of the Pirates, especially this quote:

"It requires at least two of the following: luck, which the Orioles have not had this year; money, which Rubenstein has not yet spent in necessary volume; and cleverness, which Elias and his staff have not exhibited to the extent required to overcome limitations elsewhere."

Substitute in Nutting and Cherington and you have the Pirates,

That is a surprisingly terrible start for them. Not spending on pitching definitely hurt but their offense being collectively bad so far I didn’t see coming at all.

Older I get the more I believe in teams rising and falling together. Detroit and Baltimore are my examples this year.

The Pirates are on a pace to score 473 runs this season. The all-time record for fewest runs scored in a 162 games season belongs to the 1968 Chicago White Sox with 463. We are close now... so very close... to being the worst offensive team in the history of professional baseball. Of course, the White Sox had to contend with a mound that was 5 inches higher.

Congratulations to Ben Cherington, all the assistant GMs, the coaches and development staff, and Bob Nutting for putting together the worst offensive team in the history of baseball. Have a drink boys. Job well done!

A special shout out to the Pittsburgh Pirates players, who are the worst group of professional baseball players to ever set foot on a field of play. Have a drink boys! You are the worst.

Bah, surely more teams will walk Cruz more often.

(I mean, seriously . . . I have no idea what the alternative plan is til like Konnor Griffin arrives.)

The Rockies will probably save us from the record--we still have 6 games against them.

The Rockies are well ahead of the Pirates in runs per game now. The Pirates are so far behind everyone else they can't even see the field.

TNBucs's avatar

I'm just thinking that we'll score 20-30 runs in those 6 games and that will go a long way to ensuring that we score at least 464 for the season.

And we are going to be better when Cruz gets healthy and now with Horwitz in the lineup. Not good, but better and if we're on a pace for 473, even being a little better will keep us from the record. But if we do set the record, Cherington would get the send-off he deserves.

I was so hoping Cruz would hit one out with the bases loaded to get us to 5. They need an offensive outbreak, even if it's just breaking the streak of 4 or fewer, because they all seem like they're pressing except for maybe Horwitz (but he's only been part of the last four games in the streak).

JRC21's avatar

Agreed. Or a bases clearing double. Just some big hit with men on. But they can’t do it. As I keep saying it’s pitiful. I’ve never seen a team so incapable of getting a big hit.
