Gameday 50: Jared Jones on the mound with a chance to clinch series victory against the Giants
Jared Jones will face reigning NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell
The Pirates scored four runs in the ninth to tie the game before finally winning in extra-innings on a Nick Gonzales walk-off base hit.
Oneil Cruz hit not one but two balls with an exit velocity of 120 mph or more.
Martin Perez didn’t get out of the fifth inning, but Luis Ortiz picked up and pitched 2.2 solid innings in relief.
Jared Jones will take the mound looking for his fourth win of the season. He picked up the victory in the last series against the Cubs, pitching six innings and striking out seven while allowing three earned runs.
While he hasn’t gotten off to a great start, Blake Snell is the reigning Cy Young winner in the NL and will pitch for the Giants.
He has an ERA of 11.57 in three games, all of which he picked up the loss in.
First pitch is expected around 6:40 pm ET.

As I wrote here when they signed Chapman, I found him excruciating to watch last year but he generally got the job done after a ton of harrowing moments. This year he’s failing too many times to wriggle out of all the walks and three-ball counts. He is who he is at this point: unhittable when he’s on, but his on moments are getting rare. In this context losing Borucki really hurts.
Another bad pen night.
