Keiner Delgado hit three HRs tonight for Greensboro. I take it that Asheville is another crazy hitter’s park, as Polanco, White, and Valdez also homered. Delgado and White each had four hits.

Yeah, although less of a HR park than Greensboro. Better overall hitters park. No streaming. I'd like to see whether they were cheapies or what.

Bucs are dinging some baseballs against Singer. His outfielders, I think, have made some of the catches look more difficult than they were, but there is some drives heading out to the wall.

It's been Bucco bats so far that have disappointed.... hopefully this is a sign of good at bats to come.

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel is out with a revised top 50 prospects list, taking into account players who are no longer eligible as they accumulate major league service time and early 2025 performance. Like MLB pipeline he has Roman Anthony 1 overall and Bubba #2. But the big news for us is that he has Griffin all the way up to 19 in the 55 future value tier.

He doesn’t give individual detailed comments beyond the 60 value tier, but he briefly notes that concerns about Griffin’s swing have abated, while his other tools remain off the charts.

I'm getting to where I'm afraid even to look at stuff like this. Like, could we actually have a guy like this who's not a pitcher?

Anyone notice the Anthony Murphy jinx has struck Travis Bazzana? Instead of promotion, he's out 10 weeks with an injury.

Murph, now do the Pirate's opponents.

This was the “Henry Davis game”. Hopefully he continues to get more PT and shows up offensively and defensively. Would be a huge positive if he establishes himself as a dude.

Sounds like you’re advocating for less playing time for either Cutch or Bart, who happen to be two of the very few somewhat productive hitters. Or maybe you’re suggesting we trade Bart?

Maybe between the 3 they can each play 2/3 of the games at C and DH. Not sure that’s a good plan though.

Joshua Johnson's avatar

Cutch isn’t a statue yet he can play left or right and get both Bart and Davis in the lineup. We don’t need to play Pham. Also, have you guys watched the games? This is a 1-1 talent that has hit at every level…we/he need to see if he can do it in the bigs. He is showing that he can be a major league catcher defensively, let’s see if he can actually hit at the highest level because by my calculations the dude hasn’t been given an honest chance…especially given the 1-1 pedigree

I thought Bart should have been getting reps at first in spring.

Guy gets 2 hits in the same game for the first time in his life and suddenly He's Johnny Bench 2.0 . Come on guys. You got do more than that to earn playing time over a productive catcher.

Timely hitting? Are you talking about the Pirates?

The defensive play might have won the game. Pham's throw to IKF to Henry and the tag at the plate. Cruz has been solid in the oufield for a while now.

Aurorus Borealus's avatar

According to Fangraphs, Cruz has quietly moved up to 44 percentile in OF defense (from 1st percentile after the first few weeks of the season). The kid is starting to look pretty good out there for someone who is supposedly a lazy, uncoachable malcontent.

Good D? Umm, no. Timely hitting? Definitely not. This kind of baseball is completely unsustainable. We want a competitive team, not one that squeaks by.

I’m happy that they won two in a row, but I’m not doing cartwheels.

Seems like pretty decent contact. Probably needs to elevate a bit more to start really cookin again.

Obviously the best part is that we won the series, but the second best part is how the Reds and their fans must feel after scoring 7 runs on Monday and then only 1 in the next two games. We empathize, though.

The Reds and Pirates have been quite similar for a number of years now with the Reds usually being a half-step better than us but never really in contention.

They’re way more than half a step better in the Manager position. Don Kelly may prove to be a good MGR, but so far he hasn’t caused them to improve the team’s ability to score runs.

I'm probably in the minority, but would like him to be available to piggy back the Burrows starts. If not Mlodzinski, a realistic role for Harrington.

Burrows looks capable of throwing 5+ innings on average to me. Plus back end of our bullpen could use more horsepower.

He may look like it to you, but the Pirates organization sure hasn't prepared him to do it. In his 8 games this year, he has yet to throw over 5 innings once and he has only reached the 5 inning mark twice. And that is not the big leagues.
